Swimming

This topic is about the experience of swimming with an ileostomy, shared by someone who recently had surgery. They successfully went for a swim at their local sports center and found ways to feel comfortable and confident in the water. Here are some practical tips and insights from their experience:

1. Cover-up options:
- Wearing a surf or rash shirt can effectively conceal the pouch, allowing for a more comfortable swimming experience.
- Opting for board shorts instead of Speedos can provide additional coverage for the pouch.

2. Appliance security in water:
- Many swimmers with an ileostomy have reported no issues with their pouch detaching while swimming in pools.
- Although the adhesive might turn white and feel a bit "gooey" after being in the water for a while, it generally remains sticky enough to stay secure.
- No extra waterproofing products or special preparations were necessary for swimming.
