I need and have just started to use a filterless bag so poop falls, but I still need baby oil. Unfortunately, the oil causes the ring on the bag to separate from the bag, and of course, then the poop falls out. HELP, Donald.

Hello, curious why you are using oil? Your skin needs to be clean and dry for the bag flange to stick…

If it's for itchy skin, there is a cream; if it's for irritation of the skin, then you want to do crusting…

My husband's ostomy nurse recommended the site two years ago. The help and recommendations they have given us is invaluable.

No, the baby oil goes into the bag to help the poop slide down; otherwise, it pancakes around the stoma and won't fall.

G-Day Donsid,

To get rid of pancaking, all you have to do is lift the bottom of the bag up towards you and open it. Now pour in about 3/4 cup of water, close the bag, and swish the water around inside the bag for a few seconds. Then open the bag and dump it all out. Clean the opening afterward and close it up. All done.

Try a different oil. I use cooking spray.

Doesn't gravity affect the oil? Keeping it puddled south of the stoma? Iggie's suggestion works.

So does a proper diet. If you're eating bulky foods that thicken output without enough fluids, you will cause pancaking.

How are you wearing the bag? Vertical or horizontal?

M-9 worked well in Hollister, but leaks in Convetec. So I use Adapt gel. You can squirt some in your pouch before attaching. It deodorizes, too.

I use 1 tsp. of Adapt lubricant and 1 tbsp. of hydrogen peroxide in my bag, which helps the stool slide and deodorize the bag. Also, keep measuring your stoma and cut your flange as close as possible to the stoma. I make sure my template doesn't show any skin. At first, I was leaving too much room, and my skin got irritated.

Perhaps you are using too much oil. Experiment and use as little as possible.

I'm confused when you say it causes the ring on the bag to separate from the bag. Are you saying the pouch separates from the barrier/wafer/flange? Or are you saying the ring on the pouch is literally coming off the pouch?
