Excited to Join and Share My Journey

This topic is about someone who is navigating a fresh start after undergoing ostomy surgery, dealing with the end of a relationship, and grieving the loss of a spouse. They are determined to re-engage with life by returning to work, rebuilding their confidence, and even considering new relationships. They express gratitude for the supportive community they have found and plan to stay active in it.

Here are some pieces of advice and insights shared by others:

1. Emotional support: Many community members warmly welcome the individual, appreciating their positive outlook. They also share that experiencing a break-up after surgery is not uncommon, offering reassurance that they are not alone in this journey.

2. Physical recovery and prevention:
- When getting back to physical or manual work, it's advised to wear ostomy support belts. "NuHope" belts come highly recommended.
- For the first 6 to 9 months after surgery, it's important to avoid heavy or sudden lifting. Lifting should be done slowly and with proper breathing techniques to reduce the risk of hernias.
- Gradually returning to activities like weight-lifting, biking, tennis, and golf is possible, provided that a support belt is used and careful techniques are followed.
