Coloplast Sensura Bags Not Sticking - Anyone Else?

This topic is about someone who has been living with an ileostomy since 1991 and is currently facing issues with their Coloplast SenSura bags not sticking properly. They are experiencing persistent lifting and leakage, which is causing frustration and skin irritation. They are reaching out to see if others have had similar experiences and to share their concerns.

Here are some helpful suggestions and insights:

1. Reach out to Coloplast's customer care to inquire if there have been any changes in the formulation or production of the SenSura adhesive.

2. Check if there have been any changes in your skin that might affect adhesion:
- Hormonal changes, shifts in pH, menopause, or skin conditions like fungal infections can impact how well the adhesive sticks.
- Consulting a dermatologist or stoma nurse can help rule out any infections or skin disorders.

3. Re-evaluate your skin-prep routine:
- Even small changes, like a new cleansing wipe or a different water source, can affect adhesion.

4. If you are using the 2-piece SenSura system, consider adding an adhesive seal or ring around the stoma to even out any folds. Other users have reported longer wear times with this extra seal.

5. Try warming the wafer with a hair dryer for a few seconds before applying it. This can soften the adhesive and improve its initial stickiness.

6. Consider using additional products to protect your skin and enhance adhesion:
- Bard Protective Barrier Wipes
- Stomahesive Powder (ConvaTec)

7. For those with oblong or uneven stomas, leaks often start on the undermined side. Regular irrigation can help reduce output pressure and extend wear time, though barriers may still need changing every other day.

8. Weight changes, such as gaining abdominal fat, can reduce wear time. Addressing this or using convex or concave accessories might help, even if you prefer not to purchase Coloplast’s Concave strips.
