Hello ostomymates!!

I was wondering which company's products you guys find cheapest, Hollister, Coloplast, or Convatec? And which product company you found for the best pricing? I've been trying them all.

Hi. Welcome. ..hmm🤔

Middle Island, New York, you say? Is that between upper and lower New York? 😊..

Just teasing. Hey!

Re: cheapest products. Can't say. Others will.

You have insurance? That helps. It's all expensive, though, but you can find vendors all over Google. And ask about them here. Some really do sell cheaper products, but the shipping costs. Ugh. Sit tight. Welcome wagon and better answers forthwith. 😬

👋.

Gosh, Debbles, no idea really as the prescription is written by the ostomy nurse to the supplier and billed directly to insurance. We've always wanted to see and compare pricing, so looking forward to replies.

Same. It's billed directly to insurance. But I am fascinated to see answers.

From my latest invoice:

1 ounce ostomy powder. $27.40

Moldable ring, box of 10. $136.90

Lubricating deodorant 8 ounces. $58.68

Wafer/flange. Box of 5. $122.11

Pouch/bag. Box of 10. $107.70

Spray adhesive remover 3.4 ounces $63.15

Adhesive remover wipes box of 50. $44.50

If insurance is used, prices are usually higher. I buy some things if they are on sale online. Also use Amazon.

Yes. Except for the moldable rings... those are Coloplast Brava.

Excellent products.

You guys really need the government to help you out the way they do in Australia and England. We pay a small fee of about $100 for the year, and then everything is free.

Form a group and approach the government. That's what happened here; a group of ostomates many years ago approached the government and kept hounding them until they gave in. Now we get everything for free.

It just takes one of you to start the ball rolling. But I bet most will think, "I hope someone else does it."

Regards, IGGIE

Iggie, our government can't even reach a decent health bill after a 43-day shutdown. No way anyone there gives a rat's ass about us.

Sorry Warrior, wrong answer.

I just take ONE person to start the ball rolling.

The material is covered by insurance in the Netherlands, but I can see the prices. I use one-piece material myself. That's roughly in the same price range. Other products, like adhesive spray, are a bit cheaper in the Netherlands.

Exactly, Warrior. I think it's appalling that the politicians in our country can't create a health care system that is affordable for everyone. So many die early because they cannot afford to get the care to detect diseases like cancer at a stage that would be treatable.

Wow! I had no idea how expensive supplies are since my Kaiser insurance covers the total cost of mine. Like you, I use Amazon for extra supplies or supplies not covered by my insurance.

Aye. It's the right answer in America. Wrong answer you wanted to hear, my friend. You don't get it. Nor do you live here. People disappear when they make waves.

If you're not a politician or among the rich and famous suffering from illness, you won't get far.

American politics is incomprehensible to the rest of the world... mostly because it's based on insanity.

Prices are always increased when insurance is involved. My wife recently started CPAP therapy. Insurance procured the machine and sent it to her with a mask and related supplies. Insurance later sent me an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) stating a total cost of $3,400. That amount was then reduced due to the contracted amount insurance would allow. I ended up paying $880 because her annual deductible was not paid off yet. If the deductible was paid off, it would have cost me $176.

It's the same with my CPAP supplies. Insurance paperwork states high costs, but those costs are adjusted per contracted allowable amounts, and I pay much less. A shipment of 4-month ostomy supplies has a stated price of $4,000. After adjustment, I pay $278.

But I also have to factor in the cost of my insurance. So, that $278 is really a whole lot higher.

In my life, my wife and I have traveled extensively all over the world. We have always loved meeting people in different countries. They were always curious about our life in the USA, as much as we were interested in their lives.

No matter what countries we visited, the good people we met wished they could come to the USA or asked if we could help them.

I remember one elderly gentleman we met in Cork, Ireland. He had dressed up in his "Sunday best" clothes and, with many others, gathered to see the cruise ship we were on sail away. We chatted with him for a while. As we were saying goodbye, he put his hand on my arm and said, "I'd give anything to be on that ship and go to America."

I don't mind paying. I started out adult life living in my car, poor with very little. Through hard work, prudent investing, and avoiding debt, my wife and I now have a nice retirement.

You're saying there is no co-pay? I receive an invoice showing what insurance paid and what is owed. Edge Park doesn't just accept insurance payment. The invoice shows the prices. My co-pay is a small fraction owed. Commercial insurance. Here.

Order through Byram. Might it be because his max was met months ago? There is no pricing on the website in the customer portal I'm logged into, nor on the shipping invoice.

SusanT

I don't think my Edgepark invoice gives that information, but I hit my annual maximum around Feb/Mar of this year, so maybe it did before that?
