Stoma Bags and Anti-Perspirant Use on Vacation

This topic is about finding ways to keep an ostomy pouch secure when you're in a hot and humid climate. If you're planning a trip to such a place, like the person who shared their experience, you might be concerned about your pouch loosening due to the heat and humidity. Here are some tips and insights that might help:

1. Roll-on Anti-Perspirant: One person tried using a roll-on anti-perspirant on the skin around their stoma before applying the flange. They found that it didn't make a noticeable difference in how well the pouch stayed on.

2. Thorough Skin Prep Routine:
- Use an adhesive remover wipe or spray while in the shower to help remove the old flange.
- After drying your skin, apply a skin-prep barrier. Some options include Hollister Skin Barrier Wipes/Spray, Coloplast Brava Skin Barrier, or 3M Cavilon No-Sting Barrier Spray.
- Use a hair dryer on a cool or low-warm setting to ensure the area is completely dry before attaching the new flange.

3. Extra Adhesion Products:
- Coloplast Brava Strip Paste "sticks," which are similar to glue sticks, can be applied around the edge of the flange opening for an extra seal.
- Hypafix hypo-allergenic adhesive tape, which you can find online, can be used around the outside of the flange to provide extra reinforcement in hot, sweaty conditions.
- Consider using additional supporting flanges or flange extenders, like Coloplast Brava Flange Extenders, especially if you're traveling to very humid areas.

4. Simple Mechanical Aid: Placing half of a cut washcloth behind the pouch can help absorb sweat and keep the appliance in place.

These suggestions might make your experience in a humid climate more comfortable and worry-free.
