I did it; I tried cauliflower. The first time, I had about 4 spoonfuls. It went fine. No gas, no blockages. So then, two days later, I tried half a cup of cauliflower (that was last night). No gas, no blockages, no problems. I did well. I cooked it and blended it in the food processor. Then I ate it. I avoided the stems as much as possible. It was good. The smell was not great, but it tasted just fine. And I am proud of myself. I tried something new, and it didn't hurt me. Wow. Yay.

That's great. I'm happy for you. I love cauliflower, and it was one of the first veggies I tried. I started with mashed cauliflower and have graduated to steamed small pieces. Now, if there were a safe way to eat corn on the cob ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hubz had a regular checkup with the oncologist on Friday (his numbers are improving), and as they were asking how he's feeling since surgery, they became curious about how he's doing so well with his ostomy, both physically and mentally. He credited doing research online, trying different things, and especially the support from this group. They were asking because they see so many patients struggling to adjust.

We described this group as folks with every kind of ostomy, some for days while others for decades, but all willing to share what's worked for them with the caveat that every individual is different.

We described the most valuable element as feeling like you're not alone in this. That really piqued their interest, and they wrote down the link. It seems they had a few people in mind that might benefit from the community and thanked us for telling them about it.

You know, we can't remember exactly who we learned about this group from, but we're grateful for it every day! Thank you all! ๐ŸŒป

I am so proud of you. Now maybe I will try it. I like steamed carrots.

Well done, Lee!

And yes, wise to major on the flowers and include fewer stems - this is true for broccoli too ....

Stems can be problematic for some folk [with heart considerations as well as osteo concerns].

Keep up the open mind - trying a little of new things gradually - adding one new thing to your diet at a time - and so being systematic in your assessment, then you will be able to proceed with more surety - slowly, but gently ..... and also do not combine too many combinations at one time, because, in some instances, it's the cocktail of various elements that combine to form gas and painful expansions if not managed wisely.

Good luck ..... and hopefully your own confidence in your self-knowledge of what is right for you will grow ......

YOU are best at being you, Lee - no one else is better than yourself!

I know, I miss corn too. But it's a no for me.

Thank you for the advice. I try things slowly and see what happens. Next on my list is butter lettuce. I have done iceberg lettuce, but I know it has no nutritional value. Well, according to what I have read anyway. I know butter lettuce is soft, so I was thinking it might be okay and better than trying something harsh like kale or spinach. Which I know spinach comes out looking like it went in. Because I have had it in soup before in very small amounts, and it did not digest. But maybe butter lettuce will. All I can do is try a small amount and see how it goes.

Yeah, you could give it a try and see what you think. Start off with a small amount and go from there.

Thanks, Terry. I am trying to expand my food groups. Slowly but surely, I will get there. I think so, at least.

Achieving milestones is the best and boosts confidence. I laughed so hard at the bad smell, but it tasted great. I love cauliflower. I enjoyed baby corn too, but that sucker would block me so hard that I needed to stop eating it. ๐Ÿ˜ข

Yeah, I don't eat corn. I have heard it can cause a blockage. I do like cauliflower. I have been eating it more and more. It doesn't seem to bother me at all.

For years I didn't eat cauliflower because I thought it looked very similar to a real brain!๐Ÿง

Now that I'm almost all grown up, I'll even eat my Brussels sprouts.๐Ÿ˜‰

I love corn! But those pesky kernel skins will get you. Anything with skins. I made broccoli cauliflower soup and blended it up. Tasty. I also love salads and have tried lettuce, chewing it up as much as possible. Still, pieces came right through my ileostomy. Lots of foods do, including nutrients. I grind up spinach leaves in my smoothies to get the magnesium. I'm low on magnesium. Avocados are good in smoothies with fruit, protein powder, and oat milk. Lots of stuff.

Just be careful. I was fine after eating a half cup of cauliflower rice. But after I ate 1 cup of cauliflower rice, I had a blockage and had to go to the hospital. Fortunately, they were able to clear it without surgery. Take it easy.
