Stomahesive tube hardening - any solutions?

This topic is about dealing with the issue of Convatec Stomahesive Paste hardening in the tube, which can lead to wasted product. Here are some helpful tips and alternatives to keep the paste soft and make the most out of it:

1. Warm-up methods to re-soften the paste:
- Place the tube in a cup or mug of warm or hot water just before you need to use it.
- Hold the tube in your hands while you prepare for an appliance change; your body heat can help soften the paste.

2. Clearing surface crust only:
- If the hardening is just at the nozzle, try squeezing or cleaning out the crust with a cotton swab or Q-tip, then use the paste as usual.

3. "Glaze & crust" technique:
- After applying the paste to the wafer, wait a few minutes for it to form a light crust before attaching the pouch. This can improve adherence.

4. Switch to firmer or strip forms of stomahesive:
- Consider using Convatec Stomahesive Strips instead of the tube. These strips remain pliable, last longer, and can be molded for dips, gaps, or quick patch work.

5. Use alternative Convatec skin barriers that eliminate the need for paste:
- Moldable Convatec Durahesive wafers can form a collar around the stoma, often making paste unnecessary.
- For minor gaps, you can use Convatec Stomahesive Powder instead of paste.

6. Product-life management and possible replacement:
- The paste tends to harden if the tube is open for many days, such as with once-a-week changes. Keep track of how long the paste stays usable, and if it hardens prematurely, contact Convatec with documentation to request a replacement.
