Shower cap alternative for keeping Uro Bag dry

This topic is all about finding ways to keep a urostomy bag dry while taking a shower. Here are some helpful tips and insights shared by others:

1. Use inexpensive bowl covers or kiddie-sized shower caps. These are elasticized and can fit over a folded pouch to generally keep it dry. However, be aware that water might pool inside a child-size cap, so you may need to empty it periodically or adjust the fit.

2. Consider using plastic kitchen wrap or "wrap-n-seal" products. These are simple options that stick to themselves and can seal the bag and PICC line. You might need additional tape to keep it secure during longer showers.

3. Try the hand-shield method. This involves folding the bag upward, holding it against your abdomen with one hand, and keeping the main water spray off the area. It works well if you avoid directing hot water at the pouch.

4. Use extra barrier strips for post-shower security. After showering, dry the flange and apply Brava Elastic Barrier Strips (Coloplast) to extend wear time by 1-2 days and guard against leaks.

5. Sure Seal Rings can be helpful. These ultra-thin rings are placed over the wafer/baseplate of one- or two-piece systems to maintain a waterproof seal in the shower. They also provide extra time to change an appliance if a leak starts.

6. Dry the pouch after showering by towel-blotting followed by using a hair-dryer on low heat. This quickly removes moisture from the bag fabric.

7. Many users aim to keep a pouch on for 4-5 days. Protecting it in the shower helps reach that goal while reducing unnecessary bag changes.

8. There is mention of a "shower belt" device. One member is waiting for a review of a commercial shower belt designed to shield the appliance, but no further details are available yet.
