Wearing Ostomy Bag Horizontally & Post-Surgery Issues - Seeking Advice

This topic is about two main concerns: wearing an ostomy pouch horizontally and dealing with urination and erectile issues after rectal surgery. Here are some insights and advice shared by others:

1. Comfort and discretion:
- Many people find that wearing the pouch horizontally can be more comfortable. It reduces the downward pull and prevents the pouch from poking or rubbing against sensitive skin. It also tends to be more discreet under tight clothing.
- Some people switch between vertical and horizontal positions depending on their outfit.

2. Technique for horizontal wear with two-piece systems:
- To wear the pouch horizontally, unlock the lock-ring, rotate the pouch to empty it, then relock and rotate it back to the horizontal position.
- Be careful not to accidentally pull the pouch off while rotating or emptying it.

3. Wafer wear and output distribution:
- Wearing the pouch sideways does not seem to increase wafer erosion.
- If the output is looser, it might pool on one side, but this is usually not noticeable under pants. However, skirts or dresses might show the bulge more.

4. Products that support horizontal carry:
- The "Stealth Belt" from the USA is recommended for keeping the pouch secure and comfortable in a horizontal position.

5. Post-surgery urination and erectile dysfunction:
- It is important to consult with a surgeon or urologist about these issues, as forum members have limited experience with impotence following rectal removal surgery.
- One person mentioned experiencing erection problems only after radiation therapy, not surgery.
