Ostomy Pillow

This topic is about finding a way to sleep comfortably on your stomach if you have an ostomy. The person asking the question is curious if the "ostomy pillow" they see advertised online is effective. They miss sleeping on their stomach and are dealing with leaks that mess up the bed, which is also causing frustration for their spouse due to the extra laundry.

Here are some suggestions and insights shared by others:

1. Many people with an ostomy choose to stop sleeping on their stomachs after surgery. This helps avoid putting pressure on the pouch and reduces the chance of leaks.

2. You can make your own full-body pillow:
- Sew a long, over-stuffed body pillow to act as a barrier, preventing you from rolling onto your stoma while you sleep.
- Use a washable crib mattress cover, sew three sides, add a zipper on the fourth side, and fill it with old pillows, clothes, or a sleeping bag. This way, you can easily remove and wash the insert.

3. Some people find that commercial pregnancy body pillows, like the large U- or C-shaped ones, provide excellent support and comfort for the abdomen. However, these can be more expensive than making your own pillow.
