Life After Reversal - Adjusting, Staying Positive, and Supporting Each Other

This topic is about the journey of someone who is one month into their recovery after a colostomy reversal. This was their second attempt, as the first one led to severe illness. They are sharing their experiences and insights on how they are coping and progressing.

- They are experiencing almost normal bowel function but still feel anxious about needing to be near a restroom.
- The depression they felt after surgery has lessened, although it still lingers at times.
- They feel grateful to no longer need the ostomy pouch and want to stay connected with the ostomy community to offer support and share experiences.
- They highlight the importance of positive thinking, even though remembering past experiences is challenging due to the effects of medications.

Additional details about their journey include:

- They had the ostomy bag for nearly two years before this reversal.
- They are still dealing with mild depression.
- They have started light activities, such as playing eight holes of golf and working out at Planet Fitness for two weeks, feeling sore but okay.
- They are taking recovery one day at a time and encourage others in the community to do the same.

Some advice and insights shared are:

1. You are always welcome in the ostomy community, even after a reversal, for ongoing support and shared experiences.
2. Positive thinking is beneficial, but it's important to be aware that medications can affect your judgment. Recognizing signs of depression and improvement shows strong self-awareness.
3. Reversal outcomes can vary, and many factors can lead to a surgery not being successful. It's important to keep monitoring your health and maintain a hopeful outlook.
4. Community members express empathy, encouragement, and interest in hearing continued updates on post-reversal progress.
