Waterproof Tape for Swimming and Exercise Tips with an Ileostomy

This topic is about finding the right waterproof tape and safe exercise options for people with an ileostomy. Here are some helpful tips and insights:

- For waterproof tape to use around the skin barrier when swimming or using a hot tub, consider:
1. Nexcare Waterproof Tape by 3M
2. Hy-Tape, also known as the "pink tape"
3. Brava Barrier Strips by Coloplast

- Additional waterproofing methods include using Hollister Medical Adhesive Spray #7730 when fitting the appliance. This has been reported to seal well for about an hour in a hot tub, though it's recommended to change the appliance afterward.

- In terms of durability and impact, an empty or partially filled pouch generally handles falls better. A full pouch is more likely to cause issues if you fall on it.

- When it comes to exercise:
1. Running is possible; for example, one person’s niece runs marathons with an ileostomy.
2. Martial arts like Taekwondo and other vigorous activities can be done, but it's advisable to wear an ostomy support belt, such as Ostomy Armour, to protect the stoma and appliance.
3. For weight training, start with very light weights, around 5–10 pounds initially. Some people are advised to limit themselves to 20 pounds.
4. During abdominal or core workouts, using a supportive belt can help minimize the risk of hernias.
5. Activities like spinning, walking, and jogging are generally safe as long as the pouch is secure and support is worn if needed.

These insights can also be shared with a personal trainer to ensure strength-building exercises are done safely.
