Hi all!

I have just recently started irrigation of my colostomy stoma. I was just looking to see if anyone has any tips or advice on this topic. Anything and everything is welcome and appreciated. Preferred products to use and any experienced suggestions would be fantastic. Thanks in advance.

Lots of patience and consistency! You are training the bowel to empty only during irrigation. Picking a time when you normally eliminate helps; be relaxed and not anxious or tense. Use warm water, not hot. It takes time and some figuring out what works best for you.

Good luck; you got this!

I just wanted to tell all the users of this site that I really love having the opportunity to express my feelings here. I'm positive that many feel the same. I wish that all here come out of the experience you have here will be like mine. Support and understanding from others with issues similar like each other will help us all and give the relief we all crave, well, I'm selfish. I'm here because I need support. And I find enough here to help in the tough times. Thank you. I really mean it.

Ostomy Nurse and Surgeon both said hubz could irrigate, even with a loop colostomy. Haven't been able to find much regarding the loop consideration, whether anything will 'flow' differently, but the kits are on order and there seem to be many benefits, so he's going to give it a go! Good luck with yours!

Mine is a loop as well. So far, so good. Best of luck to your husband. Irrigation has made me feel like I am back in charge of my own life. It's fantastic. 🧡
