Lumps on My Stoma: Treatment and Updates

This topic is about small lumps, known as "granulars," that can develop on a stoma. These growths are generally harmless and can be treated effectively. Here are some helpful insights and advice regarding this condition:

1. Granulars, or granulation tissue, are common in people with ostomies, particularly those with ileostomies. They can also occur with other types of stomas, such as jejunostomies.

2. The standard treatment for these lumps is cauterization using silver nitrate sticks. This procedure is usually only slightly uncomfortable and tends to be effective in reducing the lumps.

3. While these nodules are not serious, they can sometimes bleed noticeably when changing the ostomy appliance.

4. Not every person with an ostomy will develop granulars. However, if they do appear, they are generally easy to manage with the treatment mentioned, so there is no need for undue concern.
