Judith,

:-))

Your stoma will never know... Is it a white bag you use [like the salts' silky white bags? You could give it the signature black lineage and logo too!

I began my Urostomy life February 27th, 2023...a month and a half ago. I stumbled upon this site from another on Youtube and website called VeganOstomy and between that site and this one, most of my fear and worry of not having any answers other than calling the Dr's office recording menu and hoping to hear back in the next day or two for an answer to leaks, skin irritations etc, or just feeling alone and the "no one understands" thoughts I had to look forward to in my mind were all put to rest by these two websites and the community here at MaO!! I have been here for a few weeks now, and the help and support offered by the members here is just amazing!! The information and support is absolutely priceless for anyone recently out of their surgery and have tons of questions or had it for years...sit down...have a good read and you will see for yourself!!

Mine is Esther. Inspired by a Wanda Sykes comedy special. Her tummy is named Esther, and Esther likes all the food, especially the bad food!

Respect. 100%. I, personally, struggled to accept it. “A bag,” “stoma,” “ostomy” … it's too formal. (I'm grateful—don't get me wrong) but when I woke in the hospital, people were using too technical of terms for me. I was still in denial anyway, so I told them to use “Lilly”… Lilly the Illy. And I changed my “Lilly pad.” My nurses loved it. 15 years later, I still use it. We even celebrate Lilly… as “she” gave me life. So… just sharing the why behind my naming my ostomy. I'm not ashamed; it was part of my acceptance. 😊🥰

100% and also a little more comfortable for others. It breaks the ice of awkwardness. (I feel, anyway)

I've read this a couple of times… very well spoken… explained. You're right. My name “Lilly” is my acceptance of transformation.

I think mine will be Stella too. I won't meet her until August 19th, so we will have to see if it fits her personality! 😀

And you can serenade her, ala Marlon Brando, in A Streetcar Named Desire!

I named mine Stevie, as in Stevie Wonder. The formal names weren't doing it for me either. 😵

If I had to name it, it wouldn't be flattering! Maybe "Seriously," because I ask it that all day and night long!

How does having the ileostomy compare to your experience with the colostomy? My surgeon wants to remove the rest of my colon, so I'm gearing up for the transition.

When I woke in the ICU with my surprise ileostomy, the nurse came in to introduce me to my stoma. She said, "Look at her. She looks just like a rosebud." She's been Rosie ever since.

Hi: Yes, I have named my stoma because we are so close. I call her Miss Lizzy from the song "You Make Me So Dizzy" because it's best to try to be on the "same page" and understand her.

Your pouch is beautifully decorated.

Never thought about naming my stoma. But I did yell at it once - like it was a separate entity with its own brain.

Early on, I woke up about 2 a.m. realizing I had a blowout. So I had to make an emergency bag change while the stoma was very active. I was getting frustrated and started yelling at it to just STOP.

I was about to laugh about it later.
