Last night I got up to use the bathroom and splat, I had a bowel movement on the floor. I grabbed my pouch and ran to the toilet where I discovered my bag had come open. I usually don't have much output during the night, but I must have eaten something that caused diarrhea. I'm just back from a trip and am dealing with time change and a cold, which could have something to do with it. I'm also pretty conscientious about making sure my pouch is sealed. I don't know if it was the weight of my output or if somehow rolling over in my sleep I opened it. I obviously would like to prevent this from happening again. Needless to say, it was a mess and I didn't really care to take a shower at 2:30 in the morning. Fortunately, my bed was basically clean and I could go back to bed without changing the sheets. My husband slept through the whole ordeal. I'm 6 weeks post-surgery. I've had minor leaks, etc., but this was my first real mess. I'm grateful I was at home and not in a hotel or anywhere else, but I'm terrified of it happening again. I know that this probably won't be my last blowout, but I sure hope so…

Pre-op on 10/2. Laparoscopy (hopefully, no knife) on 10/10.

Excited to hear about it. Even the pre-op stuff. I'm scheduled for CT and a fluoroscopic x-ray, blood work and urology on 10/10 and 10/18.

Hello everyone!!!

It has been almost a year since joining this site. I just wanted to share. I know a lot of people get concerned about meeting someone on here. I'm not a lifer membership and I had someone initiate to take me out. I've been divorced since 2009. He lives in Chicago. I ignored the first time thinking he was joking. I live in Milwaukee. So a month later he sent me a message through this site saying he wanted to meet me. That was in April this year. I must say it was the best thing that could happen to me. We talk almost every day. We have so much in common. He comes up all the time to spend the day or weekend together. It really does make a difference when someone has an ostomy like you. Such understanding and we always have something to talk about. I want to share because sometimes people think it's hard to meet someone or they say this site doesn't work. I'm a testimony that this site does work. We are talking marriage this time next year. I will keep you posted.

The closer I get, the more apprehensive I am. Still weighing the pros and cons. The problem with all this is that an ileostomy takedown with no colon is still a crap shoot as far as long-term quality of life issues go. Especially given that, at 75, long-term can be short-term in others' books. I am not sure how I would adapt to always having to know where to find a bathroom and nighttime incontinence is a concern. There is also my wife's concern about recovery. She is still gun shy from my first go 'round when it was touch and go for about 3 weeks. She believes she is too young to be a widow. :-)

Gonna need to make a decision one way or the other on Monday.

It's a tough decision, Daniel. Quality of life you now have.... vs ... Unknown quality of life. Guess it's how badly you want to get rid of your ostomy. I'm 65, and am unwilling to endure more surgery, recovery, and the possibility of a crap, (OK, a little humor) quality of life. If I was 45.. different story. I would go for takedown surgery ASAP.

I use a quilted hospital underpad on top of my sheets. You should have 2 (they send me 4 every month???)

It's the length of my torso and 2/3 the width of my queen bed. Have an accident? PRESTO CHANGO! Take it off the bed to wash in the morning and slap the back-up on the bed, fresh jammies, back to sleep before the sleep in your eyes even begins to think of cracking open :)

Yes ma'am, and at the time (in a wheelchair) due to other issues, so I left a trail. Recently, same as you, I hit the floor. Of course, I thought I cleaned it all, and then, knock knock... the heater guy. Oh my God, I left some (ew). Anyway, I blamed it on my "damn cat," which I don't actually own.

Lol... gotta laugh sometimes.
