Can you not have another dog? [When you have leveled out and the surgical toll has eased?]

Jayne, for some reason, I'm unable to respond to your post, so I'm penning a regular reply. When our pup, Lola, died in 2018, I didn't think I could bear losing another one someday. And then my husband and I realized that we had the opportunity to do a lot of things we had put on hold when Lola was sick. We enjoyed that freedom so much that we never got another dog. We do, however, have one in our home often as we have our grandpup, Stella Blue, stay with us and just about any other friends' dogs, too.

I take part in these forums almost every day. They and the people that contribute to them have made all the difference in my having the courage to live a normal life with an ileostomy. The people here are marvelous and come from all walks of life and from all over the world. Hearing what others have lived through has really helped me put my own experience in perspective. I highly recommend all ostomates and caretakers of ostomates to come join us.

Yes, I have two of the little buggers, and mine are the Kray twins, Reggie and Ronnie. Ronnie is well-behaved, but Reggie really does have his own opinions quite a lot and has given me the most trouble, little sod. But it saved my life, so I am very thankful for my twins. xxx

Kerry, this reminded me of Goofus and Gallant from Highlights magazine!

Named mine Marvin after Marvin the Martian. If you look at a picture of Marvin the Martian, you'll see he even has a wafer on. But I named him that because when I first looked at him, I thought this blob looks like a Martian coming out of my tummy. So he is Marvin. But he has a middle name from my former ostomy nurse, who used to say he is a perfect rose. So he is now Marvin Rose.

So, what's its name?

Popular post from the past. I call mine "Little Buddy." A line I borrowed from Captain Jonas Grumby.

When he barks, I reply: "Say little Buddy."

Mine is Fred because he farts and is red, so Fred fits him well. My wife, when she hears him making noises, says, "Hi Fred."

This is my second stoma, so I called him Sequel.

I do tell Sequel off if he makes a lot of noise, particularly at the dinner table.

I named my stoma, Stella, and my colostomy bag, Betty. Betty the bag! Helps me feel they are my friends, rather than my hassles and inconveniences.

Hey Gaia,

You keep popping up on my viewed you tab, but alas, I'm not a paid member and can't direct message you.

I was going to ask you about your experiences and journey.

Thank you for your message. Yes, indeed, the same goes for you with my page problem, as we have replied to a forum a couple of times :) x Thank you. Yes, my story is a bit drawn out; I have explained a bit on my page x but it's probably easier to speak directly. However, yes, I also do not have premium, sorry! X

But in a nutshell, without going into too much detail, I had/have suffered from endometriosis for many years, which damaged my bowel. I had planned surgery, which sadly went wrong, and it was very scary - a stint in ITU - I woke up with Kanga, who was my savior, as much as we didn't always see eye to eye! Recently, I had a reversal, which was more complex than anticipated, but I am getting there slowly in recovery at the moment x Sounds like you've had quite the journey too x Hope you improve soon too. I'm very new to this site too x

If you ever get premium, drop me a message - best wishes from the UK xx

Oh, I'm glad you're in recovery. Sylvester is with me permanently and will have a Ken bum at some point in the next few months.

Haha, don't have to send wishes very far; I'm in the UK also. ☺️

Bless you. I'm sorry to hear it's been such a journey for you … xx I really hope the next part of your path goes well too. I take my hat off to so many of you here, tbh xx

Thank you, yes, not too far indeed :) x

I like your handle! I call mine Stinky Stew. When smelly gas arises, it can clear a room as quickly as my dog, lol.

Mine is Elmer because I used to have a turtle named Elmer. I had my ileostomy because of Crohn's disease and extremely slow bowel transit time; thus, the slow turtle. And I think the stoma looks like a long turtle's neck; it moves around very slowly.

I should have named it Lucy because sometimes it "has some s'plaining to do."

Yes, mine is Gertie. I named her when I was 10 (58 years ago). A boy who was also a frequent flyer at the Children's Hospital became a friend of mine, and he had named his to use as code with his parents when he needed to alert them to an issue. It was effective with my parents as well, and I still use it with my husband and kids as a form of shorthand.

Oh yes, named her after the surgeon. A beautiful person.

My husband named my stoma PIA. It has a G-rated and 18+ rated meaning.

Named mine Myrtle. Myrt for short. It's all about having a good attitude and a sense of humor. Made my doctors laugh!

I have called mine by several names, none of them fit to repeat or print here. So it goes nameless.

I was calling mine all names under the sun Sunday morning when I woke up to a massive leak. 🤦‍♂️

When you stop to think about a stoma's job, you really can't blame it 100%.

It's looking for its larger half, the large colon. So like a ho on a Friday night, it puts out.

Try to explain to it to slow down; it won't.

Try to control output. You can't.

Then there is the appliance.

At fault due to bad adhesion? Poor quality material used?

Too long attached maybe?

Or perhaps you just eat the wrong diet before bedtime?

The stoma is just doing its job.

Shit pay, lousy benefits... give the little turd maker some credit - it saved your life.

(attempting sarcasm here - chill folks)

My sister-in-law named it, Stanley. I never had to name the butthole, as it was generally well-behaved and I never needed to speak of it in public.
