I eat beans daily and have for years. I have had an ileostomy for 19 years now. I love all types of beans, plus tofu and soy sauce. High in protein, antioxidants, and fiber (yes, fiber is needed by and good for ostomates). Plus, no one needs to have their throat slit to grow beans. I can't recommend eating beans enough :-)

I eat beans regularly with mushrooms and other veggies as either a burrito filling or on nachos and have no problem with them. I do chew slowly and thoroughly, though, and I think this helps a great deal. I also eat corn on the cob with no problems either, but once again, I believe the thoroughly chewing method is the secret.

That is a lot of dangerous food you're gambling with. It would seem you have been lucky up to now, but I would say be very careful.

I'm the lazy type, so I open a can of beans and eat them out of the can with a spoon. The trick is to make sure you chew well. Baked beans, chickpeas, and big white Lima beans (aka butter beans) are my favorites. My Waterloo seems to be raw fruit and vegetables. Boy, do I miss them. Trial and error is the only way to figure out what works for you.

Thorough chewing is indeed very important, but so is food preparation and portion sizes. See longer answer at
