WE NEED POUCHES AT THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE!!!!.......WE NEED POUCHES AT THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE!!!!....Fellow Ostomates we are at a time in life again where Government collide. We have been fighting for our lives, then we have to fight for our supplies. Have we not had enough!!!! This is the year we need to be heard
...
till they pass bills to take care of our supplies so we can be PRODUCTIVE!!!!! Not worrying about where are we going to get our supplies....Life is tooooooo short!!!! This gives JOBS!!! This puts money back into the Government!!! Why are we still sitting back and taking this??? There are millions of us...with millions of VOTES!!!!!!! ......Let the pouches be recognized!!! Do not live in fear of what others think!!!!! I have had an Ostomy for 30 YEARS and we are STILL under a stupid STIGMA that WE allow to EXIST......Women fought for the right to vote...blacks fought the right to vote.....We have not had to fight to vote...we have been to ashamed to be noticed to vote...WELL I HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!! My little Ole vote will be there and my voice will be there first.

In both of my cases, I had no choice. It was surgery or be put 6 feet under! I thank God that He has been with me all these times. Without Him, I never would have known what to do and might not have gone to the hospital when I did. I don't know if you have had your surgery or not yet but I hope you will hang out on this website when you are done. I have learned a great deal through the people here and it is so great having others who have had the same thing done and been through what you are about to or have gone through. The only thing I have turned down is a reversal of the ileostomy. When the doctors did the emergency rebuilding of my original ileostomy this last February, I told them I did not want to go through this again. My doctor told me at that time that I was no longer a candidate for the reversal. In a way, I was very relieved. The last three years of my life have been a nightmare for me. I do not want to go through any of it again. If you wish to be rehooked up and they say you are a good choice for that, research it carefully. Every surgery I have ever had except for Old and New Maxine and the emergency surgery on my broken foot, I have spent weeks researching. I recently had my C5 C6 disk in my neck replaced with an artificial one. I went to my pre-op with 2 pages of questions for the doctor. I knew everything that they were going to do and could talk intelligently with them. I always try to research my adversaries! Don't cancel your surgery. It is nice not to have to suffer any longer with horrible pain. We all had to change a few things around when we had our surgeries but in the long run, most of us are glad we did it. I know I am. Good luck to you!

Hey lottagelady, you are right! In Australia, we have the SAS (Stomal Applicance System) that we just pay $35-45 per year for registration to an Association and then our supplies are supplied free of charge except for postage. But, if you are a War Vet, your postage is free.

I have heard of late, that there is a bloke having to buy his ostomy stuff on a monthly basis, and cannot get hold of him to ask why.

All this stuff should be done through government... Unless you are a millionaire, I would be finding the old rubber bags and using them...

Convatec will give a free 3 month supply. I had my surgery done in Nov of 2010 and I have no insurance. I was on a site and read that the company can help out for 3 months. Believe me it saves a lot of money. Th. Also if you subscribe to Pheniox magazine ( free) you can get free samples of pouches, osto e-z vent and a few other things. I did a lot of research and found a couple of greta companies willing to send samples. Hollister and Nu- Hope are also willing to give out samples. Give them a call and request their catalogs. There are a lot of inexpensive pouches, wafers etc. You just need to invest some time and research.  Good luck
