Hi All --

Had another else encountered this?

When I got this blasted contraption a very strange thing happened, I got a consistent metallic/coppery taste in my mouth that made everything, even plain water, unpalatable! I literally could not eat.

I did some research and found that this is a common condition with cancer patients. It's a combination of chemical changes and stomach acid. Acid reducers like Pepcid help, but not always completely. To combat the problem people found that adding a little bit of vinegar to their food counteracted the bad taste.

The article I found talked about red wine vinegar. I didn't have any of that, but I did have some Italian dressing, which is essentially oil and vinegar. So I took the dressing and poured a bit over some chicken salad I was trying to force down ... and magic happened!

The vinegar in the dressing counteracted the taste in my mouth. The two cancelled each other out and I tasted nothing but chicken salad! It was wonderful! I could eat again!

Now my salad dressing is always by my side, and I've become a big fan of salt and vinegar potato chips and pad thai, which is a bit vinegary.

It's a bit odd, I know, but hey, it works!

Very helpful

I use Biotene for the metallic taste. They make toothpaste,  mouthwash, and a moisturizing spray. I used them twice a day and it really does help with the problem.  Good luck!

Most drugstores carry it as well as supermarkets. Its in the same aisles as the toothpaste.  Good luck and hope it helps you.
