I have scar tissue around my stoma from a stoma revision surgery that was done over a year ago. The skin is slick where the scarring is and my appliance doesn't adhere properly. Does anyone have any tips for better adhesion?

I'm sorry you're struggling. It can be a nightmare when you don't have a perfect surface to work with. I've struggled a lot myself. The things that make a huge difference for me include a Hollister Adapt CeraRing around my stoma, the cloth-like adhesive area around my flange (vs the plastic-like ones), the large half-moon barrier supports, and a belt. That is my perfect combo. I hope you find yours soon.

Hello newnormal.

I would have suggested Adapt medical adhesive spray (7730) - except that Hollister have just withdrawn it from the market. They and I are having an ongoing conversation about alternatives and I am expecting a delivery of samples today, which might prove to be helpful ( or not as the case may be). In the past I have found the spray very useful in all sorts of 'sticky' situations and it is easily removed with a remover spray.

I am still hoping that there will be a suitable and effective alternative spray for when I run out of the 7730. So far I have found out the following information, which I'm intending to follow-up on at sometime in the future.

Sorry, you are dealing with that. I don't have scar tissue, but I deal with an uneven area. I use 3M Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film on my skin around my stoma and anywhere the wafer will be. I also use Brava tube paste around my stoma, then put the wafer on. I use Coloplast Sensura Mio Convex 2-piece click system. The wafer does mold to my belly nicely when it is warmed. Don't know if any of that will help or not. Good luck.

Hi Newnormal,

Try using a hairdryer's heat on your appliance after you put it on. The heat melts the flange nicely to your skin. Best of luck to you!

Thank you all for the replies. The Adapt medical adhesive spray sounds like a really good one. They always discontinue the good stuff! (I miss Bard Natural Care Gel). After looking around a bit (it seems like we have fewer options in the US) all I can find is Nu Hope Adhesive Cement. Has anyone tried that? I have really sensitive skin and there is a warning about it causing irritation...
