I have had my ileostomy since 2018. After a brief allergic reaction with one of the skin wipes, I haven't had any skin issues with it. I also suffer from Pruigo Nodularis which is a rare skin disorder which is marked by open sores that itch and burn, eventually turning into small, hard bumps. Recently, I developed a series of blisters under my skin barrier that are filled with a clear liquid, itch and burn and are angry red and open. It doesn't help that they are under the sticky part of the skin barrier. I have been using the pancake procedure with the skin wipe and stoma powder which works for awhile but the top of the blisters get pulled off no matter how careful I am when I remove the skin barrier. These blisters sting like crazy when the water from the shower get onto them. I use a special body wash which helps to dry up my Pruigo but it is not doing much for the blisters. I cannot go without my bag for any length of time. I am at my wits end with this issue. I know I should have my stoma nurse take a look but if it is anything else other than allergy to something, I will have to see someone else. My dilemma is, I am having C/4 C/5 disc fusion on Tuesday and I have been waiting a long time for it. If I see a doc for these blisters they may postpone my surgery and I need it as my artificial disc at C5/C6 has shifted and is pressing on my spinal cord. Have any of you with ileostomies had blisters under your skin barriers and if so, how did you treat it? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I did try an antifungal powder this last time I changed the barrier. If it shows improvement, I will use it again. Thank you all in advance.

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions, messages, and tips! So many have helped! We are learning as we go, learning the ins and outs of this bag. I have ordered special tape that does not irritate my skin and am now using Domeboro powder before putting on a new bag. My boyfriend says that my skin is so much less red!
Saw an ostomy nurse today; she said my boyfriend is doing everything right. One of my issues is that I am really thin, and my skin is really crinkly due to the surgery. We shall see how this bag goes.
This site is a real blessing. Everyone here is so awesome!
