Just a tip on melting  your barrier ring. My husband bought a battery operated rechargeable hand warmer. Just place it on their after applying for a few minutes. If it feels to warm place a washcloth on it, mine has 3 settings. Great for travel too, just have to charge every once in a while. Hope this tip helps other ileostomy people.

Hi nobe,

Wow, do you really need to get your barrier ring that hot to make it more pliable?  When I used the Hollister rings I never had to heat them.  The Sensura Mio rings I use now I just hit with a hair dryer on low for just a few seconds and they stretch all over the place.  What brand of rings are you using that need that much heat?  Just curious.

Thank you for your quick reply. I'll discuss irrigation with my doctor. I'm sure it would be down the road. My output is still very liquid. It's all so unpredictable at 6 weeks post-op. I have such a fear of constipation as I struggled with this forever. I used a fiber source to thicken the stool but it hasn't helped very much. I guess I will continue to be positive but it is a bit of a pain. This website is great and everyone is so informative. Cheryl

I dont heat them for application purposes. I heat them so I get good adhering to my skin, to prevent leakage after they are applied. This makes it melt to my skin quicker.

Hi no,

So I'm guessing you heat your skin as well?  It would be funny if they really were made of wax.......what a mess that would be!  Hey, whatever works for ya!!!  I'm just glad the stuff sticks at all!
