Have to say that I nearly threw a hissy fit when mine suddenly changed shape in front of my eyes for the first time!

I think that it is just normal movement - peristalsis, which makes the waste move down the digestive tract, so suspect nothing to be concerned about.

Hi there, well mine started prolapsing a few months after I had my stoma, at first it used to shrink back in when I laid flat, but as time wore on it became much worse, and wouldn't go back at all, at it worst it prolapsed about 5-6 inches and looked very unsightly. I had trouble getting a bag over it, ulcers formed and kept bleeding, and bag leaks were a nightmare, plus none of my clothes laid flat, eventually I had it amputated in theatre, since then it's been much better, though protrudes slightly, but nothing like it did, I feel more confident and have no leaks, though I have to wear a convex base plate to fit it properly. I questioned the surgeon as to why it prolapsed, he told me partly because I had an emergency op to start with and wasn't put properly in place, but also because I had frequent watery stools, which meant my peristaltic movement was working overtime. Just keep an eye on it for discolouration, because if it goes purply I was told it means blood flow is restricted which can lead to problems.
