Hi everyone,

I wonder if anyone has experience of diversion colitis?  If so, could you offer any information on the consultant treatment that you have received?

I have had the condition for the last few years and finding it a real struggle.

Best wishes,

Hi Nick,

I too had diversion colitis and I probably know what you're going through.

At first the doctors prescribed suppositories and they did help for a few years, but they stopped working. The doctors told me that most people do really good with the suppositories long term and in my case the suppositories weren't staying in long enough to help.

Then they prescribed the same medication in a enema and that was just a disaster, on so many levels!

I decided to have my rectal stump removed, because I have a permanent colistomy. It was a big surgery, but I'm so glad I did it.

Talk to your doctor about what they think will help you. I hope your struggle ends soon!

Well it's just coming upto a year since I had my emergency stoma. Since joining MAOM I have learnt all different kinds of ideas to help with the stoma. Not only that I have made a lot of good friends who I can talk to. The beauty of this site is it's not just giving tips and ideas we talk about anything and everything. So thank you for giving us a great site. XX

Hi Mel,

Many thanks for your message and the information that you provided.

I am currently utilising prednisolone steroid foam but looking at options.

Was your medication options provided by a gastroenterologist?.

Kind regards,

Nick.
