I have been having issues with my bowels for about half a year, with constipation and it becoming painful when passing stool, and intermittent diarrhea. I'm on laxatives, but they have not worked. I've told the professionals, but they are more concerned about other health-related issues rather than the change in my bowels. I've added more water to my diet, but no other help has been given to the stoma.

I've never had this change before, as the blockage I experienced back in 2018 was no stool or gas, and it was painful to walk, so a blockage has been ruled out.

Should I be concerned, as the medical doctor doesn't seem to be as worried about the bowels as about the other issues at the moment that have occurred? Or is there any advice that can be given?

I'm finding that a lot and lots of water helps. This sucks for me because I am a double bagger, so all the water has me draining the urostomy often.

Hi Hatlady and all,

I've had my ostomy for over 50 years, since I was a kid, and didn't think I really needed to be part of the ostomy site. But once active, I came to realize, that although I may not need help at the time, I was able to reach out and  help others in need. Back in the day, before stoma therapists, I use to visit new patients in the hospital or homes ... While professionals are great, it is also good to be able to speak with people with personal experience. I was a free member for awhile, but after writing often, I was given free months. I then started paying, and decided to just take lifetime membership. After all, I was going to have my ostomy for the rest of my life. I'm one of those people who can disappear for a few months at a time, but I'm always glad that the site is here, I can return and reconnect with old friends, and make new ones. This is an excellent site ... Best regards to all ... and Best wishes for a Healthy and Happy New Year.

I drink the water, but then need to go to the bathroom constantly to get rid of it. It's a pain.
