I had back surgery many years ago with no problem until I had an ileostomy 5 weeks ago. The pain between my shoulder blades and the bottom of my back is awful. Has anyone else had this?

Have you changed your sleeping style? I was a stomach sleeper until I got this glorious accessory. My back was kinda messed up for a brief time getting used to sleeping on my side/back.

Thank you for your quick reply. I'll discuss irrigation with my doctor. I'm sure it would be down the road. My output is still very liquid. It's all so unpredictable at 6 weeks post-op. I have such a fear of constipation as I struggled with this forever. I used a fiber source to thicken the stool but it hasn't helped very much. I guess I will continue to be positive but it is a bit of a pain. This website is great and everyone is so informative. Cheryl

Your core muscles will be weak from surgery, affecting your back as well. As recovery progresses, things should get back to normal.

If you just had the surgery to have the ileostomy 5 weeks ago, if I read that right, on the surgery table they move you around when you're under, and also while lying on the recovery bed on painkillers, so you do not feel if you're in a bad position. When I was released, my back was in so much pain, I had to take multiple painkillers to get to sleep; I was in so much discomfort. It got better in about a week or two.

Echo what pmivm68 said. Possibly a result of manipulations during surgery.
I also found myself walking hunched over which was putting a strain on my back, so had to make a conscious effort to stand up straight even though my abdominal muscles felt tight after the surgery.
