Hi, I have trouble with my bag acting like a vacuum and stopping my urine from going in the bag. It will then leak. This is also at night when sleeping and, of course, wet the bed. Can anyone give me some answers?

I also have a urostomy. I have had a couple of times where it seemed my urine wasn't going to the bottom of the bag and on to the night bag when sleeping. It never leaked though. It took me a while to figure out sleeping with the night bag. I switched sides of the bed to the right side and rotated my bag towards the right (I use a Coloplast Sensura Mio Click 2 piece). This is when it did that. I usually sleep on the left side on my left side or back so I think I would roll to the left, so it was uphill to drain. I switched back to the left side, point the bag drain to the left and have never looked back. This works great for me. Maybe you could try something like that.

Hello and welcome to meet an ostomate. The site charges a fee only for Full Membership, you can still interact with members here via the forums and the public chat room with free membership. The site charges a fee since it has expenses ... as do all websites, people have to spend their time to run and maintain the site, buy bandwith, servers, and other things. I am a life member here, it cost me 56$....about the price of 1 cup of coffee a week for a year. I think that is a very small charge for such a big reward. In my opinion this site is the best ostomy-related web site on the net. I hope you will stick around awhile and see for yourself. I do not own or am I in any manner connected to this site except as a member. regards. mmsh

I also have a urostomy and hook to a night drainage bag. I also had a drainage issue when I would roll onto my left side because, as stated, the urine would have to run uphill to drain. So, I started sleeping with the drain tube running between my legs other than hanging to one side. I can now roll on either side without having draining issues.

Make sure you have urine in your bag prior to hooking onto the drainage container at night. It creates a natural suction like when you siphon gas or wine from a barrel. I rarely have issues with mine.

For overnight, I would follow Uro2011's suggestion. Plus, I use a 1/2-inch strip of elasticized material with pre-cut slits in it (any fabric store). The strip comes with a removable 'button' to adjust the tension, and this keeps everything in place overnight. You can also wash the strip as needed. Issues are rare as well.

So your bed bag is not hanging on the bed, it's between your legs at night. It stopped your vacuum effect.

If it's really a vacuum in the bag, and I'm not sure I agree that is. The only way to fix that is with a vent. If you hang your bag on the bed, try poking a small hole in the top above where any urine would reach. If that fixes it, it was a vacuum issue.

With urostomy bag having some urine in it, connect the night bag and lift it above head and then on floor, body bag should then work with gravity helping the vacuum. May need to repeat. Also avoid body bag's connection to night tube from getting too twisted.
