Benadryl makes me sleepy, so I don't really want to take it during the day. Any other suggestions for relieving the itching with a pouch?

Is the adhesive causing a reaction, making it itch? Mine itches sometimes, but usually, mine is from me shaving my stoma area or the wrap I use while at work.

Hi,

Not blowing my own trumpet or anything, but I was at the healthiest I had ever been prior to getting UC symptoms. I was eating very healthy and exercising 6/7 days. I'd love to know if any lifestyle factors affect UC, but I suppose I'll have to wait until they figure out what causes it.

I've been trying to occupy myself by being in contact with friends often, but some days I am really not in the mood and find it hard to drag my mind away from what ends up being a mountain of thoughts. I suppose it's all part of the learning process and I'm sure it'll happen less with time. This website has been great so far. It's great to be able to write this sort of stuff down and chat with people that understand what's going on. For that, I thank everyone on this website.

Thanks,

Hamish.

If you're getting itching from the ostomy supplies and it is not from the skin irritation when removing and cleaning the area between changes, you might have a small allergic reaction to the product. Right now, I have to take it every 24 hours because I started having
Dermatographia 2 months ago. Allegra and Claritin block histamine like Benadryl but do not cause drowsiness and, according to my doctor, are not as bad on the body. There are cost-saving generic versions of these on the market at most big brand stores. I get the Allegra version bottle from Costco. If it is skin irritation itch, a small ice pack works great to calm things down.
