I am a 79-year-old great-grandfather. I have had an ileostomy since 1973. Would it be safe for me to travel to Merida, Mexico, alone?

If I was a relative newbie with an ostomy, I have no doubt that this site would be very helpful to me.  The members are quick to respond to questions and issues and they are filled with experience.  When I joined, I already had a lifetime with an ostomy, so I just regard it as a place to meet and communicate with other folks similarly situated.  Either way, it is a good site.

My understanding is that Mérida is one of the safest cities in Mexico. Go for it.

Keep supplies in two places, in your checked bag and in your carry-on. That way, if you get separated from your luggage, you will still have supplies to see you through. What I have read/done is to pack 3x whatever amount you might need. That way, if something happens, you won't be without supplies. Most of all, try to have fun and enjoy your trip.
