Got my samples yesterday and changed it this morning; already so much more comfortable! They bend with me when I bend, which the more convex products were not doing, which then led to leaks and a general mess. The video nurse told me that there was zero chance of any convex product ever pushing my stoma to being an ‘outie,' so it would be better to go with a smaller convex product that would bend with me. She even advised that I attach the bag in the crease first, then the rest of it. We will see how well I did that this go-around. But I am already more comfortable, and my skin is continuing to heal, so that is great!

Wonderful! I never would have thought of that. My stomas are high and framed by my rib cage, so bending poses no problems.

I'm so glad you finally got competent advice.

Hi Audrey,

You will have to ask Dwild.

Good luck... Whatever they are, they may suit you.

[I do not have a recessed stoma - and I use Salts [British Manufacturer] black or white 'ComfortB' bags - not sure regarding availability within the US.]

Could you share the product code you described here? It might help us; we're fighting the same issue of convexity (is that a word?) and have had a mixed bag of results. The failures weren't flexible enough to move, so a cough, a sneeze, definitely standing or moving, brought immediate failure. Thanks for whatever you can share.

For those who are asking, the product recommended to me was Convatec Esteem Body™ Drainable 11" Pouch with Durahesive® Cut-to-Fit Barrier, Opaque w/Window, 3.5mm Convex Depth / Tension Location 40mm. This was based on both the size and the location of my stoma hole. Your situation may be different, so it might be best to ask a rep for each company what product they would recommend. My discovery came through a video call with a Convatec ostomy nurse, who saw my situation and understood immediately what was happening. I gather the point of most convex devices is to try and push the stoma out, but my stoma will never get pushed out, so she had me try a less convex but more bendable product, since my stoma is truly an innie and is in a part of my admittedly soft belly that creases when I sit up. I was already working with a different Convatec product because I had trouble with the adhesives on other products, so it was great when they offered me a video call with a nurse. I couldn't get into our local nurse until August, and I needed help sooner. So far, it has been much better and my skin around the stoma hole is healing enough for me to not use the dermabond stuff every other time I change. The other plus is that it is so much more comfortable for me to walk that I am doing that more, which is what I need to do!

Glad to hear you have found something that sounds like a great improvement already for you! We are all going through enough as it is, so we need to be somewhat comfortable. Happy for you and sending positive thoughts!
