Is anyone else planning to attend the UOAA Conference in Orlando this year?

There is a topic already started on this... see if you can find it.

This reminds me to update that topic. Good call reminder.

Yikes - I am a social media newbie... especially this site. Can you point me in the right direction for the conference thread?

Thanks!

Easier said than done looking up previous posts; some of the posts mentioning the UOAA conference are from 15 years ago!

I found this one warrior mentioned. Hope it helps; the convention sounds like fun!

Found another post with a final comment from Bri499, who has attended before and highly recommends it. Enjoy! πŸ₯³πŸ₯‚πŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸ•ΊπŸ½βœ¨

Welcome. No worries. We all started at ground zero.

As you can see, we help get the info out fast, especially for newbies. It saves time and worry.

Sit tight. The welcome wagon is on the way.

Yes, and I am presenting too. The UOAA meetings are important to stay up to date with ostomy developments. I went to the last one in 2023. It was a good meeting.

Hi, I'm seriously considering it. I've never been to the conference before.

I've wondered if it would be a benefit after having an ileostomy for 5 years and everything that comes with it: obstructions, dealing with high output causing fainting, weakness, low blood pressure, and acute kidney injuries from the dehydration. Hospital stays over 12 times a year, and in the last month, having an ileostomy location change with a look-see, a search, to try to figure out what's causing all the problems. I would love the community feel of the conference, but I'm not sure if there's anything more I could learn at this point without changing my whole team of doctors who would have fresh eyes and dig into my problem in new ways.

I'm also worried that if I go to the conference, I'll have one of these problems rise up and end up in the hospital there.

And yet, after all of that, I'm still interested. Haha

Please keep me updated if anyone decides to go.

Thank you, Colene

I truly believe we only have so much time to enjoy the life we have left. After all the anger, disbelief, embarrassment, etc., I am finally leaning into this whole ileostomy journey. I decided to go to the conference because it truly helps to meet others in the same boat. Since my surprise surgery and ileostomy, I have traveled a lot (even made my first trip out of the country to watch my nephew play PGA golf in Cabo San Lucas). I also swim, kayak, ski, skate, play tennis, and much more and have not had any issues. I hope you decide to go, and if so, we should meet for coffee or a drink.

Party of one going.

Room reserved.

Flight pending.

The conference, also known shorthand as "the con."

It is not all about workshops or sessions, as they call it.

It's gonna be my first, and I'm attending two workshops I'm interested in.

I'm 8 years with ileo. Everything I know about life with a stoma came from MAO - THE PEOPLE.

I am making this trip as a vacation, wanting to meet the folks I have been pen pals "talking to" over the years.

So it's not about the con. It's about the peeps - for me.

It would be an eye-opener for many newbies: the workshops - sessions.

Review the schedule of events.

You will be among your peers.

No stress. Good conversation. And who knows? You might fall in like..πŸ’“πŸ’“
