Does anyone else have an allergy to the lubricant/deodorants?

Nope. But there are various things you can use. You may want to try a water-based lubricant.

I began my Urostomy life February 27th, 2023...a month and a half ago. I stumbled upon this site from another on Youtube and website called VeganOstomy and between that site and this one, most of my fear and worry of not having any answers other than calling the Dr's office recording menu and hoping to hear back in the next day or two for an answer to leaks, skin irritations etc, or just feeling alone and the "no one understands" thoughts I had to look forward to in my mind were all put to rest by these two websites and the community here at MaO!! I have been here for a few weeks now, and the help and support offered by the members here is just amazing!! The information and support is absolutely priceless for anyone recently out of their surgery and have tons of questions or had it for years...sit down...have a good read and you will see for yourself!!

Baby oil, vegetable oil, liquid soap, love lube 🤭, etc. All in small amounts, of course. Anything to make the inside of the bag slicker than snot 😁 and not stick to itself.

G-Day Kitty, First thing, do you really need a lub/deod?

Nope, I use M9 drops.

What reaction are you having?

I have two piece drainable. Drops were only good for the first dump. Now, every time I empty, I separate the top and squirt warm water against the bag across from the stoma. It cleans off the goo and helps stop pancaking.

Those M9 drops are great as a deodorant, but they are not technically a lubricant and only work as such because they do get the inside of the bag just wet enough to not stick together for a short time, until you have output like Ostoberry said. Rinsing the bag out after each empty helps a lot, but you still need something (air space, lubricant, etc.) to keep it from sticking to itself. By the way, some seem to get all precise about washing their bag out; just pour some warm water in, close it, slosh it around, and empty. Getting water on your stoma hurts nothing.

Uh, soap? I don't think so…. That's a bit scary, don't you think? Personally, I put a dab of baby oil in the bag….

Walgreens sells a disposable bottle of enema saline solution. The lid on that is a 3-inch spout applicator, and it fits perfectly on a 4 oz. bottle of baby oil. This spout allows easy distribution inside the bag - aim and squeeze only a small amount in, then gently rub the oil around under the stoma… v-i-o-l-a… the poop will slip slide away…. As a bonus, you can purchase a large bottle of baby oil (generic is cheap and works fine) and refill the 4 oz. size.

Why?

Well, while taking a naked shower, I use soap around my stoma but not on it, and although shampoo and soap wash over it, they get rinsed off immediately. I would think trapping soap in a bag for a day or two with my stoma could possibly cause issues; leaving soap on any skin would be an issue for me.

You apply your bag/ring, etc. Put a drop of soap in to keep the bags from sticking to each other. If you have everything fitted properly, nothing goes on your skin. 🤷‍♂️

Baby oil peeled off the backing from the Velcro closing on the Hollister bag. I don't know about Coloplast ones. It's worth a try!

Yes, baby oil is a slippery little devil, and a small amount is all that is needed. Sorry it didn't work for you. I use a bag clamp - no Velcro. I also use a homemade dispenser. jb.

Where do we find a bag clamp, please?

This is the one I use (I googled it). $1.99. I order my supplies through 180MED.

I should have done that. Thank you very much.

G-Day Kitty, Too much baby oil is not good; it breaks down the Velcro on the closure. The easy way to close the bag is (see photo).
