I am a 69-year-old female and had a stent put in to facilitate urine into the conduit after issues with scar tissue. I have severe vaginal irritation and inflammation at the top of the vagina (not the entrance). It is not thrush even though I have been on a lot of antibiotics as swabs have been taken. I have tried Ovestin (estrogen cream) and antifungal medication, but nothing has worked. It is sore and burning.
I have been to the gynecologist, my urologist, and family doctor. At a bit of my wits' end as I can't function properly.

Hello,

Just a thought... have the stent removed. If you get better, then it was the stent.

Your quality of life is being impacted by the inflammation/irritation. Would a pad work better?

Hope you discover a solution.

Hi Hatlady and all,

I've had my ostomy for over 50 years, since I was a kid, and didn't think I really needed to be part of the ostomy site. But once active, I came to realize, that although I may not need help at the time, I was able to reach out and  help others in need. Back in the day, before stoma therapists, I use to visit new patients in the hospital or homes ... While professionals are great, it is also good to be able to speak with people with personal experience. I was a free member for awhile, but after writing often, I was given free months. I then started paying, and decided to just take lifetime membership. After all, I was going to have my ostomy for the rest of my life. I'm one of those people who can disappear for a few months at a time, but I'm always glad that the site is here, I can return and reconnect with old friends, and make new ones. This is an excellent site ... Best regards to all ... and Best wishes for a Healthy and Happy New Year.

How long has the stent been in place? Those can be a bugger. I needed one when I had a horrible medical practice say, "Give it more time," when my body couldn't pass a kidney stone. When they do the swabs, do they send it off for testing to find out what bacteria they need to be treating? (assuming you're testing positive for infections)

Have you tried a tea tree oil suppository?

- If there is open skin, this could burn, so tread carefully with this suggestion.

Any chance you could be allergic to the material the stent is made of?

Unfortunately, I can't have the stent removed as this is allowing the urine to pass through. I have to have the stent removed and replaced every 6 months. I will have to find out what is going on!

The tests are coming back negative for infection… I think it's a nerve problem as recently I was in London and had to go to the emergency room because I kept getting a fever. My stent was blocked and had to be removed and replaced. I was awake during the procedure and could feel a strong sensation in the vagina. Anyway, I've got some various doctors' appointments coming up and hopefully, someone will have a solution. Here's hoping 🤞
