Mrs. B's favorite, the Polar Bears. One of our cruise vacations was spent onboard a Russian polar exploration vessel, The Orlova. Dubbed... The love tub. Sailed from Churchill far into the Canadian Arctic. One sunny day, we stopped at an island with high cliffs full of nesting seabirds. Patrolling the beach below... Polar bears. Occasionally a chick would tumble down, attracting an interested bear. Mrs. B was appalled, but that's nature.

The zookeeper was running around a track outside of the enclosure. The rhino was running with her. Both were having a grand time.

There were huge lines to see the pandas. Excellent marketing by the zoo.

It was a great day.

Trivia fact: San Diego Zoo has the largest botanical garden in the United States.

At 6:00 PM, the zoo closed. Time to hunt down dinner.

In La Jolla Cove area, was Puesto; serving up excellent Mexican delicacies. Had some great tacos with chips and salsa. Looking up, the moon was full and bright, shining through the cloud cover.

Another day, another adventure. I'm liking this retirement stuff. 😉

Had no trouble wearing my 3-inch wide Nu-Hope support belt all day. The zoo has lots of nice, well-maintained bathrooms with paper towels and air dryers. And water fountains with a water bottle fill station.

For accessibility, the zoo provides small vans, extended golf cart-type vehicles, full-sized buses, and helpful guides everywhere to answer questions or point you in the right direction. If you're planning a trip to California, definitely plan on visiting for a day or two.

Loved the San Diego Zoo. We also have a great zoo here in Cincinnati.

Awesome pictures. And my favorite are the penguins. I could watch them all day.

I just wanted to take the time to wish everyone a good holiday. I especially would like to thank this website and the folks that run it and keep it going. This site has been a life saver for me and I am so thankful I found it. I hope everyone has a great Christmas and Hanukka and if you don't claim either holiday, I hope you have a nice day. See you all next year!

My wife loves penguins too. On an adventure cruise to South America around Cape Horn, we took a day trip from Patagonia to Magdalena Island. We walked on trails next to hundreds of Magellanic penguins.

That trip also took us to the Falkland Islands. We went on an off-road tour to a remote area crowded with Gentoo, King, and Macaroni penguins.

We've also toured the Galapagos Islands and saw Galapagos penguins, the only penguin found north of the equator. The cool waters of the Humboldt and Cromwell currents allow them to survive despite the tropical latitude.

I'll go through my photo books and find some penguin pictures to post. I have many from trips to New Zealand and Australia too.

Looks like you had a lot of fun. Tomorrow I am going on a drive-through safari. I can't wait to see what animals will come up to the car looking for food. I hope a giraffe sticks its head in the window. LOL

A giraffe has a tongue 18+ inches long!

If you can, post some pictures.

Have a safari day.😉

What a great zoo! Thanks for sharing the photos. I enjoyed looking at so much.

Also, the full moon photo while eating was very dramatic.

We had a harvest moon last night. I woke at 3 a.m. to see, but cloud cover prevented me from seeing.

Enjoy the rest of your break.

Forgot to say that it's so important to have clean bathroom facilities. Glad they pay attention to that. 😊

I would love to see any of your pics, particularly if you get the giraffe poking his head through your window! 🤣
