Hi guys

It's now 7 months since my Barbie butt op, and the pain is still considerable in that area and my buttocks.

The consultant wants to give me steroid injections in that area involving general anesthesia.

Has anyone had experience with this?

What are the steroids supposed to do?

Steroids are used as anti-inflammatory medicine. Does the consultant think your pain is from inflammation? How does he know that? A guess?

I don't recall having pain after my Kenn butt surgery... after 7 months. In fact, I went back to work in 7 months. So your pain at 7 months is a concern.

No, I never heard of shots in the butt to control pain, and if so, it's only going to be temporary relief. I know cortisone, prednisone, steroids. I would decline a shot in my ass if I were you; it's just a band-aid - temporary relief. Something else is going on. Could it be an abscess forming?

If I was a relative newbie with an ostomy, I have no doubt that this site would be very helpful to me.  The members are quick to respond to questions and issues and they are filled with experience.  When I joined, I already had a lifetime with an ostomy, so I just regard it as a place to meet and communicate with other folks similarly situated.  Either way, it is a good site.

I've never had it, but I'm sure your consultant is highly qualified and knows more than any of us. We can only offer DIY advice, so you just have to put your trust in your consultant. Ask them as many questions as you want until you feel happy to go ahead with injections.

I had it easy after having my Barbie butt, to be honest. I was in so much pain and discomfort before surgery; post-op was easy. I was in far less pain than before. I did have an abscess inside after surgery, so I had problems with wound healing for a time. Other than that, no problems. I do know a few people that have been unlucky and had pain for years after surgery.

Question: The consultant you're talking about, is that your doctor, the one who did your surgery? Or who is this consultant you're talking about? I ask because that's very odd.

I'm 6 years down the TPE road and my butt still aches! My surgeon took so much muscle from my right glute it's agony walking for too long! I use a Tempur cushion driving my car and bed, and pillows which do help after a long day!
It's all down to cancer margins and scalpel-happy surgeons.
