G-Day BebeJ, The right bag is the one that is right for you. We are all different in here. What is right for one is big problems for another. BebeJ, get all the different companies to send you free samples and try them all until you get the right one. It's just trial and error. Regards IGGIE

I began my Urostomy life February 27th, 2023...a month and a half ago. I stumbled upon this site from another on Youtube and website called VeganOstomy and between that site and this one, most of my fear and worry of not having any answers other than calling the Dr's office recording menu and hoping to hear back in the next day or two for an answer to leaks, skin irritations etc, or just feeling alone and the "no one understands" thoughts I had to look forward to in my mind were all put to rest by these two websites and the community here at MaO!! I have been here for a few weeks now, and the help and support offered by the members here is just amazing!! The information and support is absolutely priceless for anyone recently out of their surgery and have tons of questions or had it for years...sit down...have a good read and you will see for yourself!!

G-Day BebeJ,

I can tell you what I use, and I know a lot of the ostomates in here use is "Hollister two-piece drainable." You will have to measure the size of your stoma so you get the right size base for the bag. I also recommend a seal; I use the Brava Seal. Again, you have to know the size of your stoma. Do you have access to a stoma nurse? She will help you. If I can help in any other way, just contact me. Regards, IGGIE

Thank you again, IGGIE. Yes, I know one nurse who is an expert in ostomy. I will ask her.

Have a nice day! Here in Tokyo, it's sunny and not so cold. As I hate cold weather, I envy you! It must be hot in Australia, isn't it?

Shamrock, thank you for sharing your knowledge! I use one piece bag of Coloplast and haven't had any problems.

Of course, comfort and ease are very important factors for choosing a company that produces ostomy bags. But also, price is a critical issue, at least for me (Japanese) who may be given a subsidy.

As for asking a nurse, I've thought it is a good idea, but I realize that she is not an estimator. Therefore, she has never had feelings about how comfortable or not, for example. I guess it is best to ask the members of this site, and trying different bags is the second best.

In Tokyo, there is one organization for ostomy, but the number of members is getting less and less, and also the average age is quite high. They organize one gathering for everyone, and another is for those under 40. I don't know how often the young group holds gatherings. It's sad that the gathering for everyone is not held often, probably because the organizers are quite old...

Actually, at the one face-to-face gathering I attended last week, there were only six people, and the average age is nearly 80... However, they were all experts about ostomy, so their advice based on their long experience was extremely helpful!!

Well, I'll stop now. I will post questions on the forum when I have them.
