Wanted to hear advice about reversal experience. I had an ileostomy in August and would like to know what I can expect.

Look through some of the older posts.  There are many reversal stories and follow up there.

My reversal was great, no regrets at all. Colostomy, diverticulitis, perforated colon, 7 months with the bag.

New ostomate, we’ve all gone through feeling low and depressed over your ostomy.
This is a pretty open group. Right now, in summer, it’s a low response time—lots of family things going on. If you need something, call out. Someone dealing with your situation will post something sooner or later.
It’s just that time of year.
Take care, and good luck.

Indeed, like many other older posts and topics, the same questions arise in newer posts that were previously beaten to death.

As a newbie, if... I were... I don't know if I could navigate the icons above.

Also, to do this, you have to be a paid member, yes?

Hasn't every subject been [beaten to death?] Sometimes people just like to ask,

Yes, you are correct.  Though looking through old posts can be done quickly.  Waiting for replies could take awhile.  And some former Ostemates who underwent reversal don't post much anymore.

Just my thinking.  I could be wrong.

That is indeed a greater point than mine. Looking at older posts while a new reply—a current reply—is pending eventually.

We do answer quickly when we can and advise researching a bit in advance.

You can wait. Or while you wait, do some research on older threads.

All good unless you're impatient. I think waiting would drive me crazy, in my opinion.

Yes, beaten. Agreed.

Sometimes people have to help themselves to answers quickly.

Older posts have those answers and may even incur more questions to be asked too.

Yes, you are right. The main reason I decided to stick around is that this site and the crew here were a blessing through a pretty tough year. So I thought I'd stay on and contribute where I can. All the best for the new year.

10 weeks post-reversal today and it's been great so far. Bowels started moving in the hospital once I was allowed to eat. I didn't have the very loose stool that some experience, just more frequent, and they were back to normal within a couple of weeks.

I had an ileostomy for only 11 weeks due to emergency surgery after a surgery to remove an endometriosis growth, and the bowel repair ruptured, so no bowel disease, which may be a factor in why my recovery went well.

My main takeaway is don't let the horror stories put you off; everyone has a different experience.

Hi. My reversal was 5 months ago. 10 months with colostomy due to perforation/diverticulitis emergency surgery. Took me 2 months to get back to ‘normal’ following reversal, it was no walk in the park, 11 days in hospital and re admitted after a week with infection for another 10 days. Was it worth it, YES it really was. Recovered well now and really grateful for the care I received and the support on this site.
