Seeking Affordable Colostomy Support Belts

Good evening from France! Five years ago I bought some support belts for my colostomy. They were excellent (and cheap!), but the time for replacement has come, and I can't find anything similar on the market (cheap or otherwise!). The supplier (name forgotten, sorry) and belts are nowhere to be seen.

What we are talking about is very simple - a stretch neoprene belt that you pull up like underwear. The belt is wide, with a sewn seam all round. The bag and support rim passes through a cut hole, then the top half of the belt folds over the lower half, covering the bag and offering an extra layer of support.

Has anybody seen these still available please, or failing that something as similar as possible? I paid £20 each for the last ones - I'd rather not be paying £80 for the replacement, but it's important I find something that works for me, please!  All suggestions gratefully received - thank you!

Hi Chris.  I make “pockets” for my colostomy pouches and “glue” them to the inside of my Teeshirts using iron-on tape.  It might be worth a try for you.

It seems like Amazon has access to almost everything I can imagine; not sure about ostomy stuff.

Good luck,

Mike

I don't know anything about ostomy support belts, but I did buy an ostomy hernia support belt, with a hole my bag goes through from Aliexpress; which sells mostly Chinese made products - but since a lot of things these days say they're made in China I have found that it saves us a lot of money.
Maybe you can find what you are looking for there?

Stealth Belt and MyOstomyBagHolder.com make these style belts, but they are much more expensive. I'm also not sure if they ship overseas.

Amazon US site does carry some ostomy stuff. I didn't explore it much when I was looking because I needed a custom 2-hole belt. But it may be worth checking the French or EU Amazon site.

Google support belts on Amazon.  I wear one similar to this.

Mike, I like your idea.  I wear a Nu-Hope support belt — it provides great support but no pocket for the pouch. This is a pretty inexpensive way to get a pocket for someone who can't sew. I will definitely give this a try.

Good morning Mike - thank you for this. It's the 'support' element I'm really looking for. I've been through Amazon, Ebay, Etsy without finding anything similar to my current belts: there is something a bit similar, but at 4x the price!

Good morning Gracie in New Zealand - thank you for the reply. I've just taken a careful look through aliexpress, and there is nothing like it there: nothing that supports and folds over to protect the bag from accidentally catching and pulling off. Thank you for the suggestion though!

Hi Henry, thank you. I'm really looking for something that both supports, and covers the bag to protect from accidentally catching. Mine do both in a neat solution, but it looks like they have disappeared from the market!

I do the hernia belt thing too but I will also wear a swim wrap over it for just that, to keep it from catching.  These I got from https://ostomysecrets.com

I do exactly the same thing. Highly recommend Nu-hope hernia belt and a wrap from Ostomysecret. I also need to tuck something in. I bought a package of tank tops. I cut a hole for my bag to come through. I wear my tank top tucked in. Then my hernia belt, then my wrap.

Hi Traveler. I use an old t-shirt, cut it so it's somewhat wider than the bottom of my pouch. Then I position it such that the very bottom of the empty pouch will rest on the newly "ironed on" pocket.

Works for me. Let me know how you make out.

Hey Chris, maybe I'm fortunate in that the dimensions and position of my pouch and teeshirt allow this to work.  I "iron on" the pocket so the bottom of the empty pouch sits on the bottom of the pocket.  As the pouch fills, all its weight is on the teeshirt pocket and not the wafer.

Make sense?

Hi Henry.  I use a similar belt but only for the first night when I put on a new wafer.  After that I rely on the pockets I make to handle the weight of the pouch.

Hi Chris - I think I have exactly that belt. Very simple, and after 3 years or so still going strong. 2 simple lightly elasticated strips stuck together, one deeper than the other, the less deep one has a hole to put around the bag, and then the deep strip is folded back over the lot. I got it somewhere that surprised me - not a specialist house like Comfizz in UK, but.... Amazon! Mine were from Amazon.de but many are also in Amazon.fr. Quite reasonable and if you get a couple it's probably free postage. I think the brand name on mine was SIIL or Corsinel. I had a look at those sites just now and I can't see these very simple and light belts - there is a deeper one that might be for sports, and there are many of the "serious" belts with reinforcing etc like a weightlifter would use! I really like mine and wish I'd bought a second one - it's very discreet to lift up for a quick check on the stoma and keeps my middle warm if my shirt lifts up at the back!

I ordered from Amazon. StomaSafe Plus, a double-layered support belt. They work for me.

I use the wrap from Amazon, Altrocare stoma support wrap. It has the hole for the bag and folds over the top, $24.99.
