Would you take an ice bath with a 3-month-old stoma?

No thanks, I wouldn't take one stoma or not.

I'm with Axl, no thanks to an ice bath ever.

Perhaps check with your doctor?

Why would you want to take an ice bath? I don't know that it would hurt your stoma, but I'm not sure. It might freeze the poor little thing. Then you will get poopsicles. I would check with a doctor before you do it.

Ice in my drink, not in my bath, thank you.

Hi all, I live in N. Mich., and we had 300+ in. of snow this winter, so an ice bath isn't needed. I can step out on my deck front butt naked for that.

Nope, I wouldn't chance it. I have heard recently about this being a new trend for health benefits.

Hi Mazzy,

Sure you can. No issue with the stoma, but I can't speak to what happens to your barrier adhesion in that cold water. I suspect if you don't keep it submerged for too long, there won't be any issue... but I'd bring a spare barrier with me just in case. I used to love taking those ice baths after a long, hard football game. I'm getting refreshed just thinking about it. Enjoy!

Hop in the icy water and enjoy. Some items may shrink for a bit, but everything will be fine once you warm back up. 🐢

Now, why would any sane person want to do that? Kidding, sort of. I have a good friend who does cold water swimming year-round and swears by it. I can't see it being an issue with your stoma or your appliance, so I'd say, go for it. I'm just glad I won't be joining you!

I've done swimming in cold weather... the water feels so warm! (It's a relative thing, I'm sure.)

But ice water? Not interested. That's bound to feel cold.

I don't see why it would be a problem. I often finish my shower with an icy cold rinse; it has the added bonus of waking me right up and shocking the stoma into complete silence (like a "frightened turtle"), definitely an advantage on change day! 😉

It is currently 90 degrees here in Florida…just reading your question has caused me to have goosebumps! I could not do that even if promised it would reduce my age by 10 years! 🥶jb

What would be the purpose of an ice bath? Has it been recommended to you for health reasons?

I'm sure your stoma would be able to handle it by three months, although it might retract considerably during the process.

Hmm... well... re: ice affecting stoma?

I can tell you this.

When my stoma enlarged into a golf ball-sized mushroom, I placed an ice cube on it for the heck of it.

The ice melted quickly. The stoma stayed put.

What I found will retract that baseball-sized stoma is... time...

Not sugar. Not ice. Not heat.

Time and patience.

Mainly to help with muscle recovery and inflammation.

It's a "thing." I've vaguely heard of it as a trend in working out... probably for the reasons Alex mentioned.

I'm not big on following trends, so I've never given it a second thought before this thread.

Probably not even without a stoma, but not with a stoma. I wouldn't immerse the stoma in ice at all ever.

Yes, your bag is sealed. Go for it.

On second thought, email your surgeon.

I don't know about a new stoma, but I've done ice baths many times (my stoma is 44 years old) and have no problems.
