I recently had a peristomal hernia/prolapse repaired with mesh. Now my stoma is below the skin, like down in a funnel. I have a belly—not huge, but 25 lbs overweight. The skin is ulcerated around the stoma, bleeds, so nothing will stick. I have tried crusting, hydrocolloid rings, and they do not stick because of the oozing/leaks. I just cannot wear a convex wafer because it pushes so much on my belly. The Hollister wafers—flat or convex—are so firm; when I move around or bend (even sitting in a chair, reaching forward for something), the firm barrier pushes the wafer away from my body. The stool is pasty, collects behind the ring in my wafer, and within a day, leaks so badly the wafer adhesion fails. Nothing seems to work for me. I have purchased a tube of 100% silicone and am tempted to try it. Any meaningful suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.

New ostomate, we’ve all gone through feeling low and depressed over your ostomy.
This is a pretty open group. Right now, in summer, it’s a low response time—lots of family things going on. If you need something, call out. Someone dealing with your situation will post something sooner or later.
It’s just that time of year.
Take care, and good luck.
