Curious if anyone has done a side-by-side comparison of the Hollister "soft convex" and regular convex barriers? I was BS'ing with my ostomy nurse friend, and she asked if I've tried the 'soft convex', which I have not. I find the regular convex pretty flexible, so I'm curious as to how much more flexible they can make it. If you've used them both..........let me know.

Thanks,

bob

The soft convex Hollister, one piece, is what I've been using for a few years now. I love it. I find quite a big difference between it and the regular convex. It's more flexible, and it seems to me that it adheres better because it moves with you (if that makes sense), instead of the rigid nature of the regular ones. I would definitely recommend you give them a try.

After I got my ostomy I found this site and got a lifetime membership. I have had so much help from the core members, things that even the wound care nurses didn't know. If you haven't been through this journey you don't know - only the people that have experienced this first hand truly understand what your going through. The support is enormously helpful getting through this. Afterwards when you start to learn how to deal with this new normal you can begin to help others.  ...mtnman.

Thanks T! I just ordered some samples from Hollister of both pre-cut and cut-to-fit 'soft convex' barriers. Looking forward to seeing just how flexible they are.

I think Terry and I are using the same bag (well, we're not sharing a bag!). It's infused with ceramide, which is good for the skin. The barrier is quite flexible, and the border is tape, has good adhesion, and moves with you. I don't recall if I tried the regular convex wafer; it's in my brain somewhere, in the mishmash of products I've tried over the years.

It does sound like we might use the same one, 8958? I also love the extra protection of those side strips.

Mine is 8962, probably just a different size opening. The material on the bag is so soft and comfortable.

The material is really soft, and it seems to stand up better than before. Mine used to be in shreds by the time change day came. Since they changed the fabric, it is stronger, but it doesn't dry as fast, and it seems to be even less opaque, don't you think? If there is poo in there, it's pretty obvious. My only quibble, well, other than having to wear it in the first place!

Yes, very see-through. I'd prefer to have it all concealed since it has the viewing window anyway.

I tried it. I did not like the fit and feel as well as the Coloplast Sensura Mio Soft Convex. Also, the drainage opening is a very flimsy poly without a reinforcement that is difficult to separate for emptying and cleaning. The product rep said she'd had that complaint from many users.

Thanks for all the feedback, ladies. I've got some samples coming from Hollister. I have used the Sensura Mio previously and found the wafer material too hard and inflexible, but I'm not sure if they had a 'soft' convex when I tried it. Mine was a hard white plastic, but maybe they've changed it since then. I also use a two-piece rather than a one; there's just been too many times when I had to change my bag but wasn't also able to change my barrier, but the one piece is tempting. I will let you know my thoughts when they get here and I've given them a try. Thanks again.
