Good morning everyone!

I am new to all this, but I'm hoping to receive some support regarding irrigation with my stoma.

I am now on week 2 after desperately wanting to start this (I've had my stoma 18 months now). However, I am finding the whole process exhausting! I am not sure if I can do this now every day forever.

Any help/support gratefully received!

My stoma nurses have been honest and said they don't have many people that choose to irrigate, so I feel a bit alone when it comes to people to talk to about it.
Thanks for reading.

Hey, I have an ileostomy, and with ileostomies, you do not irrigate. But I do know there are people on here that irrigate their colostomy. I am sure others will chime in to give you advice. But if it's too tiring for you to irrigate, don't. You don't have to. Do what's best for you.

This site has been a blessing for me in learning how to cope with and navigate this journey as an ostomate. I have a colostomy as a result of a perforation in my colon since May of this year. I don't know yet if it will be permanent or reversible. The people on here have provided me with so much advice and information about living with an ostomy that I don't think I could get anywhere else. You all have given me hope and a place to come to for support. I still struggle with acceptance, but know that it will come if I am patient. Patience has never been my strong suit! Also, I love all the humor, although it really pissed me off when I first came on here. Thanks to all of you.

I know Bill is an irrigator; perhaps he will respond or DM you. I can't irrigate because I have a transverse colon colostomy, but I hear it can take an hour or more. Things are always harder when you don't know what you are doing.

What kind of problems are you having?

I have had a colostomy for approximately 10 years.
