I went on Amazon to buy Marathon, and it says I have to open a business account in order to buy it. Is that for real?

Yep. I get mine from the Parthenon company.

Okay, I see that website. But would liquid Bactine bandage do the same thing? It even has lidocaine in it to ease the pain!

This site is a godsend. As a newbie (colostomy on Nov 8, '21), I look at it every day for a number of reasons. Reading what people are going through makes me grateful that my elective surgery because of a severe case of IBS-C is nothing compared to what they have been through and are still living with.

I don't have to go to the hospital for anything related to my ostomy. I feel sorry for those who do and am in awe of those who can use humor to describe their ordeal. I identify with those who express their fears. I especially identify with those who are depressed because I am clinically depressed and have general anxiety disorder. How ironic that having a colostomy eliminated some of the depression and anxiety that the IBS created. I've been widowed twice and I'm on match.com.
I immediately included my operation in my profile and am pleased to say it doesn't seem to make a difference.

And there is much humor on this site and it's one of the reasons I enjoy it so much.

I could name numerous things I've learned from reading people's comments/questions/answers.

After months following on a daily basis, my only negative comment is I don't like listing the most popular members.
It's not that I don't like these people; I do. It's that I think it elicits some "Facebook"-like banter or comments that are gratuitous.

I don't do any social media and think that its merits are overshadowed by too much negativity.

Meetanostomate is in no way negative. I just think the gallery of "popularity" detracts from what is an excellent website that deals with a serious issue that causes a myriad of emotions.

Marathon is a prescription product, so you'll need an Rx to get it. Amazon sells it to business accounts of medical clinics and such.

I can order it through my ostomy supplier, but it keeps getting hung up with insurance issues. So I haven't been able to get it yet.

I'm trying it through my supplier too, cross your fingers!

Hi D,

I've never needed a prescription to buy Marathon, but I do see Amazon requires one. Not sure why, as it's OTC everywhere else. Last time I bought some, I got a great deal on a whole shitload on eBay. 3M™ Cavilon™ Advanced Skin Protectant is an alternative that also uses cyanoacrylate, but I haven't tried it firsthand.

;O)

Where have you found it besides eBay? I've only located it from Amazon and medical suppliers. My doctor will write a script, no problem. But the medical supplier insists on putting it through my insurance. And insurance wants a ton of documentation. I haven't been able to bypass that and pay out of pocket... it's annoying.

Interesting. Marathon Skin Protectant, which is what I assume you are referring to, does not require a prescription in Canada and is available on Amazon.ca, eBay, and through various suppliers.

Typical. U.S. systems are overly complex. I was hoping it was just Amazon being weird.

All of my ostomy supplies require a prescription. My medical supplies vendor gets the script for me, but they put it through insurance, which adds its own layer of complexity, and I'm not desperate enough to try to bypass.

I pay out of pocket for it from Parthenon without a prescription.

Thank you! I tried Amazon, Medical Monks, and Medline. No one would sell to me as an individual. Amazon and Medline carried it for business clients only, and when Amazon said I needed an Rx, I just accepted the answer.
