I have a large bulge near the stoma and I'm guessing it's a hernia. Can you operate on this? I have an ileostomy.

G-Day Wrapt,

Yes, you can. I had the same thing just two years ago, and it was fixed perfectly. Not only was the hernia repaired, but at the same time, I had half of my right kidney removed because of cancer. All is perfectly okay.

Yes, you can. I just had hernia repair surgery on May 15. It is painful, but it can happen robotically and can work. I had incisional hernia repair and parastomal hernia repair, so I had a lot done. Plus, they had to remove scar tissue and sew a hole in my abdomen closed. So it was involved. But you can have a parastomal hernia repaired. Be alert that your ostomy doesn't fall asleep and stay asleep due to the anesthesia. You will end up with an NG tube if it does. Those are no fun.
