Hello everyone, the products I find most helpful for my ileostomy are

Hollister flange without the tape to peel off. I also use a skin barrier called Tens Aces. I buy that on Amazon. It is a little pricey but so well worth it. Around $30. Not a covered skin barrier by Medicare but the best product for your skin. I also use a Hollister ring and slim size because my stoma is small and on the bag I put the paste. I have had a lot of leaks in the paste, but by using these products, it really helps. After everything is on me, I use Hollister Cera Plus adhesive barrier strips all the way around the flange, so 4 of them to make sure I am not going to leak out the sides. These strips are great and they are covered by Medicare. If I have issues with redness or itching around my stoma, I have been using Caladryl. I also use a hair dryer to dry my skin before putting on the ring. Your skin has to be completely dry before attaching the ring and the bag. Hope this information helps any of you.

Why the flanges without tape?

I will have to look into the Tens Ace and Caladryl, thanks!

I've tried Ten Aces; it works well, but for me, Skinister spray is better. Both are expensive, though.

Hollister barrier rings (slim) work well, as do Eakin. Neither one lasts as long as I'd like, though. Any suggestions?

New ostomate, we’ve all gone through feeling low and depressed over your ostomy.
This is a pretty open group. Right now, in summer, it’s a low response time—lots of family things going on. If you need something, call out. Someone dealing with your situation will post something sooner or later.
It’s just that time of year.
Take care, and good luck.

Hi. I have a urostomy, but leaks involve the same principle. You may need convexity. You might be allergic to the tape and need to try a different product. Consult with an ostomy nurse if one is available.

I've wondered if Caladryl would help. How much do you use, and doesn't it interfere with any sticking?

I have the same question: why the flange without the tape? I use a flange with tape and then do some serious taping down with additional strips.

I like the flanges without the tape because they stick better and it's easier for me to put on, so I don't have wrinkles.

I use the Calydryl if I am itching. I use my hair dryer to dry it after applying, so I don't have issues with the ring not sticking. I just put a dab on my finger and go around my stoma. You can also use the Cavilon skin barrier for itching. Also, whatever product I use, I always dry it with my hair dryer. It just takes a second. If I have a skin irritation, I use the Flonase nasal spray because it has a steroid, and it clears it up right away. I don't have to use the paste anymore. Every bag change, I just see what I need to use. I had a loop ileostomy in May of 2024, so I am getting used to what works for me. Even food blockages or painful gas have landed me in the hospital. My ostomy nurse told me to wear an ostomy belt to prevent leakage. That has helped quite a bit. I even wear the belt when sleeping. I must say it has been a journey.

Also, there is a web site YouTube video that I have learned a lot from. Her name is Maggie Trenton. She is wonderful.

Have you tried Marathon? That is a good product, but I find Tens to be easier to work with, and I always dry with a hairdryer before I apply the flange.

I have a urostomy too and use a convex bag, Hollister Cera Plus thin ring, and Hollister Adapt powder/Coloplast barrier wipes sometimes.

Thanks for sharing valuable information.

I have a urostomy. I use a convex Hollister bag, a Hollister thin Cera Plus ring, and sometimes I use Hollister Adapt powder for redness or Coloplast barrier wipes.

May I please know when you use Cavilon barrier spray?

The barrier strips are a lifesaver. I have only had three leaks in one year. I use the adhesive paste around the ring on the base of the appliance (I have the two-piece by Hollister). I also wash my used bags in a bit of bleach and detergent overnight and hang them to dry. It saves on bags, and it's nice to irrigate and then toss in the pan. Plus, if it is messy, it's so nice to grab a clean used bag! You are doing a lot like I do! Since I wear a two-piece, I unsnap and clean it out with wet wipes. Hope this info helps someone who is having leak issues! Love this site; it is so helpful, and I have found info that has helped me a lot!

I use Cavilion spray around my stoma to help with itchiness if the skin is irritated. I have also used Calydryl or Flonase, which that product has a steroid in it. I just kind of go back and forth to see what I am going to use. I do line up all my products on my bathroom counter and pick and choose. Also, what has helped me is to change my bag and flange every other day. When I feel the itchiness, that's when I change. I, of course, wish that I could go 4 to 5 days. I use Hollister products, and it works the best for me. I do love the Hollister flange that has no tape. It's easier for me to smooth out when putting it on.

The only thing I do not like about the Hollister bag is the filter. It really does not do anything for me. From experimenting with other companies' bags, it has been the same problem.

Also, try various products, get free samples, and give them a shot on a day when you're going to be home all day. Cold plastic, Contech, and Hollister are the big three, but Nu Hope and many others have great products for you to try.

Although you may find the product perfect for you right now, bodies change, pH changes, hormones change, and sometimes appliances you've used for years, even decades, no longer work for you.

Be open to changing your routine, especially if you start having to change every day or more frequently.

Since switching to the Hollister Premier 1-piece drainable soft convex pouch, I have not had a leak.
It seems to gently depress the abdomen, forcing the stoma to stand out a bit. It also is very gentle on the skin.
Hollister will send samples. It takes a few weeks for them to arrive.

The Hollister flange I use does have tape. It is all one piece. You do not have to peel the white stripe of tape off. The flange is a little wider than other ones, but the taping on it adheres to my skin better. Plus, I spray a skin barrier on first called Tens Aces. I order that from Amazon. Cavillon spray really helps if I am having itching, or Calydryl. I always use my hair dryer to dry my skin before applying the flange. If I have a skin irritation, I use Flonase nasal spray because it has a steroid in it. Whatever products I use, I dry my skin well. I started using an ostomy belt, which has really helped with leaks. My skin actually looks good around my stoma, and I use multiple products, even the stoma powder.
