How do I know if I have normal bloating or some sort of obstruction? My tummy is bloated, there is pain on the left side, but there's still output.

If you aren't sure, it is best to get it checked out, especially if the pain is intense.

Someone I listened to on a podcast had said to drink Diet Coke when we have an impending issue before it turns into a “hospital issue.”

Sure enough! It's so corrosive that it just tore through the would-be blockage 🤗 Be blessed!

Hi,

Not blowing my own trumpet or anything, but I was at the healthiest I had ever been prior to getting UC symptoms. I was eating very healthy and exercising 6/7 days. I'd love to know if any lifestyle factors affect UC, but I suppose I'll have to wait until they figure out what causes it.

I've been trying to occupy myself by being in contact with friends often, but some days I am really not in the mood and find it hard to drag my mind away from what ends up being a mountain of thoughts. I suppose it's all part of the learning process and I'm sure it'll happen less with time. This website has been great so far. It's great to be able to write this sort of stuff down and chat with people that understand what's going on. For that, I thank everyone on this website.

Thanks,

Hamish.

I'm glad to hear that worked for you. Actually, the Coke that's recommended is the full sugar Coke, as it's the high sugar content that is a big part of why it works. It's worked for me a few times.

In the podcast, the interviewer actually said to use the Diet Coke. Not the greatest thing for anyone, but if it can cure a blockage, it's a lot cheaper than a hospital bill. 😊

Hello A

You have had an ileostomy for quite some time. Is this a new experience for you? Try the Coke, and if you feel the need, seek medical advice.

Thank you all 🙏🏼. I stopped eating food yesterday and had lots of fluids and coffee, and I feel better now.

Very helpful

It was likely a partial blockage. Grape juice acts as a natural laxative. If you're not nauseous, tooty (gassy), or vomiting, try drinking that if you're not fond of Coke.

Update: Also, stay well hydrated.  ;)
