What were your symptoms, please? How did they treat it, and how long did it last?

Yes, I got ileus after surgery. Symptoms were lots of pain when eating. I had to be readmitted to the hospital until the bowel woke up. No eating, and I had an NG tube inserted for several days. Good luck.

Yeah a year ago I wouldn't have known what to ask to find out I had a parastomal hernia. The only reason I knew about them is from this site. Thank goodness for this site. Otherwise I would still be clueless. If I hadn't though from stuff on here to ask my surgeon about having a hernia, then I would have never had the CT and I would have never known that she should have known about it a year ago.

My mom has had an NG tube. How long did it take to resolve?

Several days to a week; I don't remember as it was 7 years ago. Everybody is different. Unfortunately, the bowel is slow to wake up.

Yes, I had ileus with both my stoma and reversal ops, and the lovely NG tube. The first time was about 10 days, but with my reversal, it was only 4 days.

I have had an ileus with every abdominal surgery I have had, 6 now. Best thing you can do is get out of bed and walk; gravity helps get the fluid moving through the GI tract. My last surgery was just 2 weeks ago, and I was walking hours after surgery. I have had them last for 2 days (last one) to 3 weeks in ICU.
Good luck, get to walking!
