TEMPTATION

“I CAN RESIST,” mused Oscar Wilde, “anything but temptation.”  I met that same devil this past week in the otherwise innocuous form of Jelly Belly beans.  Geez, they’re good!  I overindulged, then paid the price.  Perhaps Wilde had similarly discovered how difficult it can be to just eat a few of some delicacy.  Still, he didn’t have an ileostomy.  My system threw a fit.  It lasted through the night and into the next morning.  I had to do a change-over after I got up with a bulging balloon on my belly.  Jelly Belly indeed!  After all these years, you’d think I’d have more sense.  But noooo.  I had my run-in with the dreaded temptation, and it took me to the woodshed.  My moans of pleasure turned into moans of pain.  Cheapskate that I am, I paid the price and left a large tip.  Alas, my system finally subsided, leaving me with dueling memories of my love affair with Jelly Belly beans.

Everyone has their price ...... and it seems every action too:

We don't have Jelly Belly beans here in the UK - so far as I know ......

And following your account, I will steer clear of them if they are sold over here.

Hope you have a gentle day with a 'reliable' safe treat instead.

Have a good one.

Geekyjen,

Thanks for the reply.  I will be seeing my doctor on Friday and mention Entyvio.  I did not remain paralyzed for more than 2 days, but it was terrible and I was so scared.  The doctors just used alot of xanax and other drugs like that to UN paralyze my joints that were being attacked by the remicade.  Turns out I have been diagnosed with LUPUS. It is attacking my nervous system.  I had ulcerative colitis in 1996 and they had to remove my colon.  Had a J pouch for 10 years, until it started failing.  I then got a permanent iliosomy, and I suffer from severe chronic diareha, and I dehydrate frequently.  I recently had a proctectomy, and that is when the new autoimmune disorder, Lupus, appeared.  I have had two hospital stays now because of the blisters and the paralyzing incident.  I will be dealing with this forever now.  I have just been working on acceptance.

I love this website because of wonderful people like you!

Even knowing the price, sometimes the temptation is just too much. If there is a next time, I might just buy less of the Jelly Beans.

Here's to you feeling better.

Maybe this experience will prevent you from that particular indulgence in the future, but another one is around the corner, sure as sh!t. It doesn't seem to matter how old we get, or how wise we think we are, temptation will get us eventually. I gave in last weekend at the Farmer's Market. The donut guy had 'double dark chocolate/peanut butter' donuts!! That donut was one of the best things I've ever eaten. The problem is, I didn't really pay any price for it, other than monetary. Well, my cholesterol might not have liked it, but she's not talking. My system accepted it gladly, so what are my chances of resisting it next time I'm there? I'm sunk.

There's a new donut shop about to open just a few minutes from my house.  No way I'll be able to resist it.

Life is short. I say give in to temptation and enjoy while you are living.

As Jimmy Buffet says, “I'd rather die while I'm living than live when I'm dead.”

You can buy them here in the UK.... especially around Easter and Christmas. They are definitely moreish 😀

Everything in moderation, though, I reckon!

Dollar Tree here sells Belly Flops. The misformed, weirdly shaped rejects. I'll tell you, they are delicious anyway. I put a clothespin on the bag and try to forget where I put them.
